A polite request, Columbus with iPod/iPhone

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Would it be possible to get some pictures of the Columbus connected to an iPod/iPhone?

I'm interested in the information that is displayed before I commit to my plans ;)

Many Thanks in advance.

Nick

Connected via bluetooth or mdi? Which screen shots do you want? Phone or media?

Maybe you could me? :)

On the navi side of things, I can see the maps are Navteq which is good even more so since TomTom bought them out.

Does the Columbus have TTS and TMC?

Thanks

Yes and yes.

They have TTS and TMC. The tmc shows as little cars on the map to indicate heavy traffic and there is also a tmc button which brings up a list of traffic news. Also, obviously, it attempts to avoid congestion when navigating.

Coolio.

Thank you very much.

Gonna see now if I can source the latest Columbus with MDI and bluetooth before the end of the week.

Personally I wouldnt bother with MDI, I have my iphone hooked up to the Columbus via OEM bluetooth and it works great, I just make up a nice long playlist, let it connect and away you go, and if you have the music stored on your phone with Album Name, Artist, Track Name etc it will all come up on display, the only thing that you would need to do would be if you wanted to swap album or swap to a differnt playlist you need to use your phone to flick over to it, but apart from that its perfect.

My wifes VW has MDI connected to the in car radio, and neither of us have ever used it, its still got the connector cables in the bag in the glove box, dont get me wrong I am sure MDI has its uses, but for us it doesnt work, if you can live with a good long playlist or something then BT is the way to go personally.

Yep, if I had an iphone i'd probably do the same, trouble is I don't; i have a crappy old nokia "personal" phone which i use at the weekends and a blackberry for work, so for me the MDI in the glove box is perfect - i just leave my old ipod classic in there with 40GB of music plugged in permanently.

You can also get a USB socket to plug into the MDI interface, but the result is the same. The head unit allows you to browse your music folders and play whats there, the same whether its an iPthing, USB stick or SD card.

TBH you can get a 32GByte SD card so cheap I wonder why anyone would bother with anything else? I suppose its for when your wife wants to plug her iPod in, or you get some of the latest hot sounds given to you on a USB stick.

If you use the bluetooth connection it works better, 'cos then its your iPthing that controls whats playing.
