`oosing` water in passenger footwell.

Featured Replies

Good afternoon all.

just driven to and from the Waddington Airshow. Its some 90 mile round trip.

As my wife got out of the car here back at home, she noticed that her handbag, which was at her feet, was really wet. Looking further I could see that water was ossing out from the right hand side of the well...closest to the engine I suppose. Its a boiling hot day so could it be something to do with the air con having to work really hard? Even if it is that, it does seem weird. Any views would be much appreciated.

Regards.

Mike.

Get it to a dealer PDQ. No water should ever be getting into the saloon unless it's though an open window or door!

If the water has been getting in for any length of time there'll be a major strip and drying out job to do and possibly some new parts.

Possible faults, leaking windscreen seal (this is what happened to me, Sept 2012, MY2013 1.8TSi SE+ estate - it took weeks to diagnose and fix), other things include leaks via the heater.  Other possibilities are leaks from the seam joining the roof to the side.

if you have removable mats take the passenger one out and put your hand on the carpet. If it feels damp, it might not be too bad, but if it feels sopping wet there's a serious and potentially smelly problem if it doesn't get fixed.

When mine went in for repair, within a day I had Skoda Assist on the phone arranging a replacement vehicle, which I eventually kept for about 6 weeks

Thank you for your input `100andthirty`. I cant though see how it can be coming from outside of the car as it hasn't rained here in weeks and the car lives in my garage. So it can only be coming from somewhere inside the car, presumably from the engine components. I'll do as you suggest and get it to the dealer ASAP.

Is it water or coolant? If coolant it's most likely o ring leak in air con, and these sort of leaks usually end up in a front footwell so that would fit.

We've had plenty of rain where I am!! No washing car or even car washes?

Not washed the car (NEVER use car washes) for about 10 days now. I believe the foot well was dry when we set off this morning because my wife would have noticed otherwise.

Following your first response I contacted Skoda Assist to ask their opinion on the possible severity of the occurrence. The chap on the phone could not have been more helpful. I'm getting a Dedicated Technician coming to have a look tomorrow morning. Hows that for service. I'm mightily impressed.

Hi, Steve.

I don't know for sure what it is to be honest...I'm not sure how I'd tell. Rubbing the palm of my hand over the wet patch and smelling it didn't give me a clue...no smell at all.

As you can see above, Skoda Assist are coming to have a butchers tomorrow morning.

Hi Mike

Good to have tech visiting, so yes you can leave it to them. In case you need it in future, coolant has a slight viscosity over water and if you use a white kitchen towel/tissue, you should notice orange dye too. Also if you have enough leaking out to heavily dampen carpet, you should notice drop in coolant level in header tank when engine is cool.

Cheers

Steve

Thanks, Steve. I'll remember that.

Anyone know where the aircon run off is on the Superb, doubtfull it's high enough to enter the cabin though

Favorite is imo the aircon pipe has vibrated loose or indeed an o ring has failed and you are getting the water the aircon produces dropping out of the dash.

Have you tried pulling off the carpet trim on both sides of the centre console each side of gear stick, held on but velco only.

Run the aircon at max.

If the aircon condensate pipe is bend behind the dash as mine was from the factory you can see water dropping down and running behind and under the carpet after about 10mins and from under the glove box

superb-ki...

Yeah that's exactly the problem!

Skoda Assist came to me this afternoon and did just that with the side panel (where the little net is) and we could see water dripping down! He fiddled around but couldn't fix it and being as its going in on Wednesday for its first service he contacted the dealer (Wings of Peterborough) and they will hopefully sort it then. He (Skoda Assist) seems to think its something to do with a `Convoluted hose` (whatever that is)! I just hope the whole foot well doesn't get really soaked though. I've left the trim off and stuffed a towel under the drip so hopefully by the time I get to Peterborough (90 mins drive) the towel will have caught most of it. I've turned the Air Con off and will keep the passenger window open until I get there. I hope that'll be okay.

When this happened to my superb i pulled up the carpet to check what it was like and in the end  with a very very helpful local dealer skoda ended uphaving to replacing all the sound proofing, all the carpets, trim and rusted brackets behind the dash and check the main console unit under warranty.

At first they just wanted to replace the pipe not the hidden damage it had caused leaking since new!!!!

Wasn't until i wanted to see what other damage had been caused by asking the dealer to lift the carpets up that i was shocked what in the future could of been a nightmare...

Good luck hope yours has not been leaking since new......

Me too!

Thanks for your good wishes.

Good luck from me too. If this has been going on for nearly 12 months, there might well be wet sound deadening which'll need drying out.

An update on this...

Turns out that the leak is due to an Air-con hose being incorrectly fitted at the factory. So presumably its been leaking for the past year and it took the red hot day last Sunday for it to manifest itself with the oozing through the carpet.

Perhaps it would be a good idea for anyone else with a similar vintage car to check their foot well following a very hot day...just to be on the safe side.

Mike.

Hi Mike

You've probably already thought of this, but just in case...

Have they given you a worksheet with this all written down? If yes, keep in case you get any future bodywork rust issues in that area or air con problems. You can then show that it had a leak from factory for first 12 months.

If not, they should be able to supply you one on request.

Glad you got it all sorted.

Hi again, Steve.

I have't got anything from them yet but I'll make sure I do get it all documented for the reasons you highlight.

Many thanks for your interest.

Mike.
