VRS engine problems.... please help

Featured Replies

Hi all, little bit of history then I'll get on with the questions.

I have got a Mk2 Fabia VRS that's less than 2 years old.

in Nov 2012,(4 weeks after a full service and spark plug change) I had a bad misfire that ended up with a tip of the electrode of a spark plug getting caught between the piston and the bore, this took the dealership 3 weeks and a replaced engine to sort out. (engine number 2)

Now on 5/7/13 Skoda took my nice running fine little brum into the garage for another service, on the 21/6/13 the car was back in the garage running like a heap of crap (felt like a misfire again but after 10mph it ran perfectly, below 10mph it shook me to pieces). After the first week these guys had no idea what was wrong with it, then a week after its been in they ring me saying it needs another new engine due to oil starvation and they aren't paying, after a long game of pass the blame they agreed it couldn't have been run low on oil but still agreed to change the engine and turbocharger. (engine number 3...or is it?)

its now the 8/7/13 and guess what... yep I have a flashing EML :@

question 1

they told me when they replaced the engine they had a blank block sent from Germany and it had been stamped with the same engine number as my previous ones... is this legitimate?

question 2

how can I physically check that the 3rd engine is actually not just the second engine and they are trying to fob me off? (so far I still haven't got the invoice through to say they spent any money)

if any of this doesn't make sense please just say and I'll do some breathing exercises and re type it the best I can :)

You say 'they.

Best get it from the Organ Grinder and not the monkey.

Get in Writing from Skoda UK what you are receiving in the way of a Proper Warranty repair to give you a fully functioning car and

one that will not lose you money when you come to sell it.

(i mean more than the age and condition of a used car should lose.)

Ask for an explanation of the Engine, if 'new', rebuilt/reconditioned, or a Short Engine,

& what exactly that is and from where.

Ask about Engine/VIN numbers on replacement engines they supply, & the V5/DVLA.

Any changes, or stamped Blocks.

Ask why many UK owners are receiving new engines and you are not.

Get Legal Advice from a Solicitor or check with your Local Trading Standards, log a case and get

advice on your legal position.

Any reason you did not reject the car at the first problem, or now.?

It is clearly not fit for purpose and the Workshop/technicians doing the Warranty work on behalf of Skoda may

not be capable of doing the Quality of work required to make the car Fit For purpose.

What a nightmare, I really feel for you.

As George said - contact Skoda UK and complain.... Get them to put pressure on the dealer to come up with some documented evidence of exactly what work has been done.

Doesn't make sense that they would try to blame the problems at the end of June on low oil as they had only blinking well serviced it 2 weeks beforehand!

Sounds like a bunch of cowboys to me.

Good luck with it and keep us updated!

I remember seeing something in the Octy section on engine replacement as the guy was concerned his V5 needed changing and from that post yes SUK do get engines with blank numbers on them and simply put your old one on the new engine when they change them over.

as far as the second question is concerned physically you won't be able to tell so you'd need to ask the dealer to see the other (2nd) engine as proof or as SUK to provide documentation confirming it had bee changed (again) which should be doable as they would have tracked both engines in and out so to speak.

I feel sorry for you, but at least it's being done under warrenty :whew:

Well im sat waiting in the garage now to find out why the engine managment light was saying hello to me on sunday, i asked for a copy of all documention including the job cards parts lists and warenty paperwork and the service manager looked like he had just been hit by a train, a little stuttering and stammering and he finaly agreed... I will let you all know how this goes.

Anyone want to put forward some questions i should ask wile im here?
