Alternative wheels/tyres on the Citigo

Featured Replies

The standard fitments are 165/70-14 5J x14 ET35

                                          175/65-14 5Jx14 ET35

                                          185/55x15 5.5Jx15 ET41

                                          185/50-16 6Jx16 ET43

My question is whether there is any problem with fitting 185/60-14 tyres on 6Jx14 ET38 wheels. The rolling circumference is very close but the ET slightly bothers me as the wider tyres on the Citigo are fitted to higher ET wheels.

Any experts out there?

I wouldn't say I'm an expert, but from what you have posted the wheels will be fine.

They have the same width as the 16" rims on the list and a difference of only 5mm in ET.

After having trial fitted some Golf Mk3 wheels, 6Jx14 ET45 I found there is a problem. The dishing on the Citigo 5J wheels for the caliper is quite pronounced and is not quite enough on the Golf wheels (part no 1HO 60102P). They just foul on the caliper and I'm now thinking of 3mm spacers with the Golf wheels or fitting 185/60-14 on the 5Js.

Anybody got views on the best way to go.

Thought you said you wanted to fit 6Jx14 ET38 wheels, if so they may give more clearance than 6Jx14 ET45 with 3mm spacers, but obviously may also depend on the shape of the spokes. Offset of 38mm may be the same as offset of 45mm with 7mm spacers imo.

edit: An extra 10mm (5mm on each side) wider tracker will hardly make any difference to the handling.

The original plan was for the ET38 but I got the ET45 at a good price The amount of fouling on the calipers was very small so I have now taken a very small amount off metal off the spokes to get the clearance from the calipers. The clearance is all down to the shape of the spokes.
