Advice in buying Octavia Vrs mk1

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to buy an Octavia vrs estate and read the excellent guide on briskoda which came in very handy when I went to view a vrs mk1 today in London. Due to traffic (!) I couldn't get much above 50 but drove well and bodywork was good. I'd really appreciate some help from those in the know though - the faults I spotted were drivers door central locking wouldn't work along with driver's electric mirror not working. Does anyone have a ballpark figure/experience of getting these fixed? Also there was an advisory on last mot that front brakes slightly imbalanced and need adjustment. Anyone had a similar problem?

Otherwise cambelt done 2 years ago and drove nicely on test drive. Many thanks for any help to a newbie!

Welcome to Briskoda.

There's a large connector in the drivers door that is prone corrosion, also the drivers door wiring which comes through the A plller into the door can break. Both can cause the symptoms you describe.

DIY fix can be cheap if you are lucky, but a dealer/garage/auto electrician will probably charge you top dollar :-(

As Paul says, either water ingress or a few broken wires.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm not great at car diy myself but guy I take all my cars to for servicing could probably do it a lot cheaper than dealer etc. I guess it depends how much it annoys me as I could just lock and unlock with the key - old school ;)
