Timing Belt replacement

Featured Replies

Hello guys

I was wondering if i could replace the timing belt without the tensioner etc etc?, a clip has fallen down my bottom cover and chewed up the belt on it now.

Timing belt, tensioner, and rollers were done 8K ago

You can but I wouldn't

Is the belt on its own that much cheaper than the whole kit?

As said you can, but I wouldn't.

There's not a massive price difference and the tensioner might be tricky to set back, (has a release pin)

So i guess you'd have to take the tensioner off completely before the belt will come off.

If thats the case ill have to get a new tensioner...

I'm pretty sure it is possible to re use it but I couldn't say as I've always replaced it.

If you're still on your original plastic water pump I'd change that as well, adds a little bit (25-30£ IIRC) but will likely save in the long run.

Pretty sure the water pump hasnt been done.

Im on a really tight budget ! £100 max! haha

Are you doing the work yourself? If so you should be able to get everything for less than that, I'm sure I was 70-90 for belt kit and pump, and I replaced the aux belt whilst I was at it which was something like 12-15.

All from a local part factors

Thats no including a tensioner ! and thats another £50!

Gates is fine, that's what a lot of manufacturers use as standard anyway

I might be wrong but I think the cambelt kit has the tensioner in it.

It doesn't if it includes it or not? The picture will be generic you'd need to message the guy.

Where you getting £50 from? A quick look on eBay there had full kits for sub £100 (gates as Dayco).

Anyway I'd rubber flea bay and pop to a factors

*doesn't say

Just looked again the parts in the kit are:-

Gates Belt no:
