Gearbox oil.. 6 speed vrs

Featured Replies

So looking through the forum It would appear people suggested part number G060726A2, I've checked that part and its about £5.40 but is for use on 5 speed box's

The most up to date part number is G052157A2, this costs £22.76 for 1 litre. No other part numbers match for the 6 speed box and it shows no older part numbers etc..

I would want the original oil it had when it left the factory, not updated stuff...

I also have some 75w80 semi synth from euro car parts but don't want to use that if its wrong also.

I've heard/read about the massive price difference between them as I was thinking about doing it myself.

Could you post your findings as I would like to know how much this would cost if I do, decide to do it.

I got some from the dealers for the Cordoba PD130 6 Speed box (FJW) and it cost £5-odd a litre.

Out of interest ask your dealer which oil they recommend you use.

Do you mind pm'ing me your reg number so I can order some?

I orderd the expensive stuff and they called me back an hour later to say its on back order so won't be in stock for a while.

Thanks for the pm mate.

I've orderd 2 litres of oil for that car, it came to £14.97 a litre and the part number was G052171A2

the stuff that went into my 03 Ibiza 6 speed some years back was G 052 726 A2     the stuff going into my skoda 09  6speed is G 052 512  A2    this is after much buggering about ending with searching for the engraved( at the factory ) number which looks like a date(bottom of the bell housing)   with this being the best help from someone in SKoda who actually seemed to care (thanks Steve)   I am now so brassed off with the VAG "confuse a consumer" oil numbering system in, future it's FUCHS for me  an outfit which seems to know what they're doing and good service from OPIE    p.s.  etka quoted G 052 171 A2

p.s. etka quoted G 052 171 A2

So I've orderd the correct oil from etka, so that's good at least!

Thanks for the post

bear in mind I believe the gearbox oil capacity is 2.2ltr or 2.3ltr, so 2ltr don't quite fill it

from when I did the clutch on wifes vrs last year I ordered it from dealer and they indicated it was 500ml bottles but it came in 1ltr bottles

make sure you can get the filler plug out the front face before you drain the box, also make sure you have the correct spline or allen key (can't remember off top of head) with hole in middle to get the drain/filler plugs in and out

after 85k the oil I drained out the box resembled old diesel engine oil, the stuff going in was thinner than sunflower cooking oil and practically clear

oh and it is a pain in the rear to fill as the bottles don't come with a tube or anything like normal gearbox oil

Thanks for the replies and advice.

I figured I'd just top up with some of the old stuff of needed, I emptied it a few weeks back to check and it looked like new so put it back in.

I didnt have the correct tool at the time to remove the gearbox plugs so used a hammer and chissel (I know it sounds bad but I had gearbox noise and was running out of ideas!)

Only way I could tighten them back up was hammering the bungs round to wind them back in. This wasn't good enough and I've noticed puddles under my car and seen its been dripping from both the fill and drain plugs.

Since I don't know how much oil is in the box im taking this opportunity to change the gearbox oil since it'll be done for another 100k miles.

don't suppose you've got a link to what you bought and where from do you?

Just part numbers and price from the dealers.

I used TPS to order them, even they said they don't know what grade of oil it is or any spec about it, all you get is a part number on the bottle.

Just buy a security spline to fit. Hammer and chisel is proper ghetto lol. Thought you'd have access to one as you work at a bag specialist?

I have the tool yea, just not at hand at the time. :)

I'll post plenty of pics and maybe a how to guide when I add it to my project thread.
