Juddering in 2nd gear?

Featured Replies

A long road close to where i live has around 8 speed bumps, i usually go down the road in 2nd gear at about 10mph

Slow enough to go over them gently, but sometimes once i have gone over a bump, the car judders 2 or 3 times quite harshly

It's not the same judder as when you're about to stall because it i am doing enough speed for that gear, it only happens immediately after i have gone over a bump

Does this happen to anyone else?? any idea on what causes it??

Are your revs around 1800 rpm when it does it?

at 10mph in 2nd the engine will be around tick over? so maybe it is trying to stall but recovers fairly quickly ?

Could be, but it only happens after going over a bump

I can slowly move along at an even lower speed in 2nd and have no problems if it's flat, it goes up and over the bump fine, but once i'm off on the other side, that's what it happens, so i have to accelerate a bit for it to stop

Yep, rpm is slightly lower then 1800

i would guess the shock of coming down off the bump at such low rpm is trying to stall the engine

I'd have thought it'd be the pull of the engine having to climb a speed bump at idle lol

I'll try them in 1st and see if it's any better, and a little higher speed in 2nd

lol while your at it try hitting them in 5th too .... then you can jump all the ones in the middle :p

Sorry bud - Did not read it properly. Totally missed that you said 2nd gear.
