remap.yes or no?

Featured Replies

I have an 04 fabia vrs and after much discussion with my other half am now in a position to remap. The only thing holding me back is the fact it might void my warranty if the dealer finds out ( which i hope they wouldnt as im after the switcheable one from star performance ).Also the fact that im probably gonna need more mods for the car to take the extra power.Whta do you guys think. Is it worth it?Im sorely tempted after reading how good it is.Please help cos im doing my brain in thinking about it.

The switcable remaps are not as severe as the customs ones. You will probably get around 160-170 from it and the car can cope with that fine.

You won't need to do any more mods, but the popular SEAT Cupra intake pipe and a green filter are good additions as it greatly increases the amount of air to the engine.

cutting a hole in the OSF wheel arch to allow more air to flow through the intercooler is popular too.

If you can't afford to repair the car if they void the warranty then don't do it! There's no point paying for a brand new car because it has a warranty and then voiding it after a year, but that's just imho ;)

Been there, agonised for months, then went for it. The transformation following a remap was amazing and completely changed the character of the car (an Octavia in my case). You could plod on into 2007 with a standard car but think of all the enjoyment you will be missing. JM2PW. :D

Thanks for replying guys. Its not that i cant fix the car if it goes pear shaped but i just dont want it to thtas all.I would like to think i will get at least as much use out the car remapped as i would standard.Star performance have also said they can fit the bigger intake and green filter for

Engine won't overheat - you definitely need the bigger intake & green filter if you do a remap or use a tuning box imho. If you dont it will just smoke loads more.

Bigger wheels - won't make any difference from a remap point of view. Only thing to keep in mind is the speedo calibration, so you'll end up with even-lower-profile tyres if I'm not mistaken :)

The arch-vent-mod should help a little with the heat from the intercooler, and as that doesnt alter the car itself I reckon that may be happening to mine (which has the stuff on it as per my sig) even though mine's standard from a remapping perspective.

My approach has been to keep doing mods that the insurance company I am with allows. Once the policy is up for renewal I will look into alternatives, cost and remapping.

I've done 10k miles in slightly below 3 months so the 60k limit will hit me before the 3 years are up anyway. I'm sure I'll manage another 3 months before doing a remap though :D (tempted as I am :D :D)

Clearly the warranty issue, only you can decide, but I thought sod it and remapped my 05 Fabia Vrs. The car is amazing. The standard brakes still inspire confidence and don't fade, no heat related probs, and it's been pretty hot outside, a bit of smoke, but it is a diesel, and pure cheesy grin on my face all the way there, and all the way back again.......

Definitly remap, when I picked my fabia up and aske dthe dealer about his reply was "dont tell us about it" which was nice. Will let you know if he still honors the warranty as there is a pint defect that needs looking at

You have to remap it to TRY and keep up with the Octy's ............. :D

A re-map'd PD130 is very fast! we can see over 180 bhp and no smoke :)

And the okty's have to get remapped to try and keep up with remapped Cupra r's and they get remapped to try and keep up with remapped evo's etc - yawn!

A re-map'd PD130 is very fast! we can see over 180 bhp and no smoke :)

Wish I went to you and not jabba then, I have 180bhp and see nothing apart from smoke!

No smoke !!!..........................:rofl: ..........who are you trying to kid .......??????.............another Fabia dreamer ........ :D

We are agents for Custom Code, we seen a few PD130's running the software and we have not seen any amounts of black smoke.

You do seem to see alot of Fabia VRs's with black tail gates! not sure what software they are running

Standard I would have thought, as a standard engine the PD does beltch a fair bit of smoke on over run and when crawling.

I agree, my car only has a slightly sootier bottom since my remap. Warm weather and an emergency supermarket fuel purchase won't be helping. Back on the branded derv now, so hoping it will clear up. Smoke not excessive though.

If i were to re-map i would start saving up for an uprated clutch right away...

Just adapt your driving style and don't put your foot down in the middle of the torque band, let it rev to 4.5k, then change. If you drive it like a petrol, my guess is it should be ok. If you shove 400+ nm through your transmission, then even an uprated clutch won't like that, and the gearbox might start shaking too, and then, the slippery slope of go faster bits continues, until you can't afford the trip to blackpool for fish and chips. Where would I be then? It has a knock on effect, and I wouldn't be able to afford the exhaust system I want, and the air filter, and the coilovers................

My Jabba map started off excellent, however since fitting the TT vents and in particular modding the fog light to allow more air in I believe I definately need my map tweaking a little as it smokes like a bi@tch (not aided by the warm weather), even though it's only a small change...

If I were to do it all again then I would opt for the Custom Code 1 (CC1), IMO unless it's just marketing bumf it does seem to be the most up-to date version of PD tuning, saves the clutch as peak torque doesnt kick in but seems constant (280 lb/ft) from 2k to near 4k whereas a Jabba map peaks at just over 300 lb/ft but is pretty much gone by 3k. I also noticed the peak bhp on the Jabba map is 3,900 on mine, whereas it's 4,100 on the CC1 - 280 lb/ft and 180 bhp (true bhp unlike my Jabba map :() at the same time is only going to be fun.

Furthermore just to continue my rant, you will notice the C1 has no dip in power and is extrmely linear, whereas the Jabba's dips from memory quite considerably around 2.5-3k and is pretty much a roller coaster ride from the start. And on the JBS rollers there was a 15 bhp difference between Josh's car running CC1 and the top Jabba mapped car (cant remember who).

At the moment CC seems the cleanest remap and it's probably the safest for the clutch. Also, it will probably be 'easier' to drive as it's predictable, unlike the more spiked-up ones out there, which once you're used to it are great, no doubt about that & based on how some of those guys/gals are able to take off towards the sunset it works ;) - but until you're used to it you'll be burning tyres & clutch up slowly...

Just wish I had sorted out my finances by now, but not as yet :(

Smoke is not supposed to come out the car, no matter what you do to it and no matter the conditions of the weather. We hit 48 degrees celsius here and the only cars that smoke are the early 90s corollas here, and sometimes THOSE don't even smoke.

This is something to think about. You buy a Fab vRS, 130bhp standard. You then get yourself an intake and filter, increase bhp & throttle response by about a 2-figure digit or less, and no smoke.

Remap.

Lots of smoke. Hmmm....that boost pressure is increased so much because somewhere one way or the other your inletting more fuel & air mixtures than the car can take....just keep in mind guys, that a smoking car is NOT a good sign. Get them checked. Those remaps maybe easy, but it seems that your cars won't be having a very long life to run. The car was manufactured with specific power ratings in mind, the parts are used accordingly. And just by a simple remap, you get something like 50bhp, something standard parts I think are not ready for.

Then there is something wrong with your car. Cars are not supposed to smoke, unless its the hot exhaust versus the cold weather.

That will be the previous software you were punting thats making them smoke then, or are you still doing them alongside the CC. :D

True, but the Fabia VRS is a diesel and since i've got mine i've done a bit of rudimentary research and lots of diesels seem to chuck a fair bit of smoke/soot. That makes me feel better whenever i see mine doing it!

Hi,

I think in the summer even a modest remap creates heat that the smic cannot displace.

So keep standard?

John

damn soot!
