Yeti Windscreens

Featured Replies

Having driven vans and cars for something like 40 years and getting just stone chips in the winter on the screens including some pretty heavy flying stones the screen has never cracked on any of them.

Suddenly we have two cracked windscreens to date with a very small chip right at the bottom of the screen on the drivers side in the corner. This on both occasions has created a crack 38 cm long and now a 41 cm for today's pain in the neck.

Will have to wait five days to get the screen replaced from AA Autoscreens with a Pilkington unit.

Anybody else had hassle with the screens cracking instead of just a chip. Have they made the the screens thinner to save money and weight. Thats another £70 charge from the IAM poliocy.

Just turned on the air con today as it is getting pretty hot and all I could hear was a leaf rustling sound and just ambiant air rushing throiugh the top vents? Heating works when dialled up but once the temp knob is put back to low no cold air?

Could see both front rad fans rotating ok but wonder if somehow the coolant has leaked out after 2 years? Try selling fridges that break down in that time. After 20 years my fridge and freezer still operate ok in the home. Anybody got an idea as hols are starting this Saturday.

There is another thread on this very thing somewhere on here.

Quite a few people think it is to do with the design or the screen others just think it is one of those things and in no way anything to do with the yeti.

The argument will commence in 3, 2, 1....

My A/C is fine at over 2 years of age but i use it regularly which keeps the seals moistened.

If you don't use it they do tend to leak and that really isn't just a Yeti issue, although there is quite a lot of noise about VAG aircon units generally on the internet.

Whilst i take your point about your 20 year old fridge i know of people who've had expensive fridges go pop after 18 months.

There are always exceptions both ways.

How often do you leave your fridge turned off and for how long? Auto air con is not designed to sit unused for extended periods and operates as a dehumidifier and filters and maintains stable cabin temperatures. If you set it at a normal cabin temp 21 or 22c it just gets on with its job with the lubricant in the gas maintaining the seals and bearings.

Looks like the stones that crack your windscreens also hit the condenser.

Like you I never switch mine off AUTO. It therefore comes on as needed. Never had an issue with any of my cars AC?

+1

+2  Never turn the air con off, my van is 10 years old and the air con is serviced every 2 years, gas removed new oil and re gassed,  never let me down.

Yeti is treated the same

Thanks chaps for the feedback.

The air con is turned on nearly every week to keep things up and running and the car is now two years old.

As an electrical appliance service engineer I service some fridge/freezers and my point was that all these units run most of the time ok without  changing the gas or oil?

I have never been asked to re gas and put in new oil on any domestic unit to date?

All my customers don't have a problem with the actual sealed pump but the fans and PCB boards?

So why do the car dealers suggest this gas change which of course cannot be checked like brake pads, disks etc.

There is no way that the average chappy can check what is actualy done unless you take a sample of the coolant before and afterwards with a mass spectrometer?

Being a chap who often looks at the glass half empty I wonder if this is a little money earner brought in by the trade.

The last time I checked our mpg we used aprox 5-6 per gallon with it on in the summer heat.

Anybody out there who can explain why car air cons need so much maintenance as I have never pulled one apart.

Local dealer in Norwich will have a look at our Yeti later this week.

Sounds as though you have done the right thing and the warranty should kick in!
