Am I being unreasonable?

Featured Replies

As some will know, the order books opened today for the Mk III Octavia VRS, but it is still not possible to get a brochure explains what some of the little nuances of the options are. Now I would have thought they would have had them last week at Goodwood but they only had a little 6 page publicity pamphlet with little detail. You can not even down load a brochure with more detail.

So am I just being unreasonable or do others believe one should have been available today?

Yes, in my opinion they should have a brochure available on the day of ordering.

But this is Skoda UK.

The 2D part of the configurator has been working fine all day.

Well, until the whole website just went down. :D

Sprechen sie Deutsch, Jerry? I'll ask SWMBO if she can pick one up while she's in Germany, but she won't be back until the 26th ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

With the new Yeti B)

Managed to configure one last night without too many issues. Was a little perplexed that some of the options seemed to clash (for no apparent reason). If i'm being expected to part with £25k i'd like to know exactly what is what! Wholly reasonable to expect literature explaining the whys and wherefores.

Moved to Octavia 3 in case Skoda see it ;)

Totally agree!  I've had to do a fair bit of digging on VW forums, youtube, Skoda international site etc, just to find out what some of the options actually do.

With new technology options like Adaptive Cruise (£750) or Columbus Sat Nav (£1350), I find it tough to commit without actually seeing the thing working.

Similarly with cheaper options, it's not clear what "Simply Clever" buys you, rear-side airbags need better described (safe for child seats?), crew protection assistant is another mystery...it puts the windows up the split-second before your have an airbag inducing impact...hmm!

The link below might be helpful (when they bring the site back up), it's got the new Octavia manuals, including Aundsen and Columbus Sat Nav:

Personally I think Skoda UK's marketing department doesnt really understand the product well enough from launch; they should have had the standard and optional spec documentation nailed before launch.

At least its now clear the vRS is SE spec bar a few choice options, appears to come with anthracite Gemini's as standard and generally cant be as well spec'd as an Elegance.

Had this exact same trouble when I was selling cars for Ford. The new B-Max came out and could be ordered. All customers wanted a brochure of course, but did Ford provide us with any? No

And the same with the new Focus ST, people were having to order the car's blind, so to speak.

It's not as though they don't know when the launch is going to be. I'd of thought it was part and parcel of the process. But hell, what do I know.

Interestingly, several weeks back when speaking to the salesman at the Skoda dealer who I've known for 9+ years, he predicted the launch would be frustrating.  He reckoned the guys at Milton Keynes HQ will know all the details of the specs, prices etc early but not pass them on.  Similar happened when the new Superb was launched, they done a roadshow visiting all the dealers, with a left-hand-drive model that included a pile of non-UK options!!  I could tell his frustration and embarrassment that he finds out details of new specs, or first glimpses of new models, or pricing info from the customers, before they've officially been passed it from HQ.  Sometimes speculation, sometimes accurate, but still, frustrating!

...I visited the dealer a few days ago, only to find he's now left the company :-o

Ridiculous, if you ask me. You'd expect to receive all of the information on the cars before they can be bought.

At least on the website perhaps.

Instead, orders aren't being placed because people have no idea what they're getting.

It's easy... let SKODA sell their cars as they would be sold in the CZ and ditch SUK's marketing and their lack of common sense when it comes to giving us all the options we want :)

SWMBO has all the literature she could get, hope you can read German, er, and can wai until after the 27th :)

I was in my local dealer today and they game me a brochure to take away but It's nothing more than a few pictures and a list of standard spec. It's only details the wheel choices, for other options it refers you to the official website

Which frankly if it is the 8 pager is a complete waste of time if you are serious about buying the car imo.
