A dealer promising to beat Drive the deal discounts!

Featured Replies

Could be interesting!! they are ringing me back later and are offering me one of 17 supposed discounts that Skoda UK have given to each dealer for existing customers...

...apparently....

I said that I'd be interested if the deals were in line with drive the deals current offers on the Octy 3. He said they would exceed that discount!

We shall see....  (do I sound as though I suspect its marketing bull!?)

Ha interesting indeed! your not swaping ur yeti are you? :(

That's a difficult question actually as financially its the best thing to do (as opposed to part ex'ing my other car that's only worth 4k) but I really don't want to part with the Yeti! :(

your yeti sounds quite a machine! would be hard to lose id guess as by looks of it youve put alot into it not to mention money

If the dealer does beat the DTD price, be sure to give the name so others can give them a chance.

I'll pass on the details don't worry but so far no return phonecall....  (and I still say he's wrong in suggesting he'd be beating the drivethedeal price anyway!)

I'd be mega impressed if he beats the DTD price. To be honest why should he bother? Presumably he's get your business if he matched it anyway?

He's looking to get an order in next week is what I gathered... I said I'd be ordering later in the year and be expecting them to match the dtd price... He said he could do better if I put the order in early. Still don't think they'll be able to beat it though!

I've phoned one today and they've said there'll be no discount at all on the vrs due to the 0% finance. When I mentioned drivethedeal they said they were only prices for the petrol and no 0% even though I emailed through a screenshot lol.

Can't see me changing if there's no discount as there's no way ill be able to match my current monthly pcp

A little OT (sorry). Is there anywhere online I can get a free book price for my current octy?

Hi Stu,

Was it Mitchells? I went the other week with my daughter for Fabia Monte Carlo prices and they would not budge off list for that even... I mentioned and showed them the DTD price and he (Rob) quickly stated no dealer will offer 0% finance through DTD.. Went to Lightcliffe's in Abergele instead and got a reasonable deal. Mitchells inept selling has lost them my custom (service and a new car) plus my daughters too.

I've had 4 vehicles from Mitchel's, always delighted. But the deal has to be equitable. I will just keep my current car otherwise.

Yer all mad for deals/pcp etc over there. We get 0% interest that's it!

I got one from what car for my previous octy when I traded it in, but the dealer gave me loads more than they quoted so don't know if that was a 1 off. Have you tried webuyanycar.com

Auto trader are doing valuations based on previous sale prices now as well.

if i buy a on the 0% apr i will still be expecting discount. the two are not connected, what you buy the car for is the dealer part and the 0%apr is VAG finance. the dealers sales team are just using this to make more money for there own pocket  as they get two commisions every time they sell a car on finance.

I would feel exactly the same. I do wonder tho if vwfs are heavily reducing the commission to the dealer for the 0% - which is why they are reluctant to also give discount on the list price as their income from the sale as a whole is down?

Yep I was quite disappointed when I approached my dealer recently. Saw a potential opportunity providing my car wasnt in much in the way of negative equity to try for a zero cost change into a new TSi or TDi manual hatch on the basis I might be able to secure a sensible discount on the new car and benefit from the all-in-all more attractive 0% finance PCP offer.

If I could part ex mine for what it owed and secure a 10-12 % discount figured I could reduce my monthly payments by 20-30 quid/month without handing them any cash. Where it got strange was that my car was only in negative equity by about 200 quid (which I am sure the dealer could have written off) which was much better than I expected but they were not prepared to offer any discount on the new car as there was no margins care of the 0% offer.

Again v happy with my Blackline and not desperate to sell it at all but was surprised there was no chance of a discount on the car, dealer possibly spinning me a yarn but dont think im the first to say the same about the 0% deal and dealer margins.

I think it's defo worth waiting a few months before considering the new Octy vRS -1) because when its not so new to the market discounts and offers are more likely and 2) I always feel 'early' cars are more prone to problems/issues and patchy build quality.

Think youre right furbytom, early adopters do tend to end up getting stung in one way or another. Dealer dis say to me for us to have another look in 4-5 months as the equity position in my car should have improved a bit and there may be more oportunity to strike the right sort of deal.

Something i am fairly set on now, diesels good but missing petrol power. Whilst the diesels are cheaper to finance (due to stronger residuals) and run I think id I do buy another ill hold out for a TSi this time.

Be aware that the gfv is only going to get revised downwards though. Any future sales promos could also trigger a drop in the already low gfv which finance purchasers will need to consider.

So have they been sneaky to offer the 0% by lowering the gfv & the final payment by the some or all of the finance cost?

I would have said it's more likely that the 0% is there to try and incentivise the purchase despite the poor depreciation.

Skoda can't change the fact that their cars have poorer residuals than more premium brands, but they can ease the burden on the consumer by not adding interest on top of the depreciation.

They know lots of consumers will just look at list price or apr and assume their cars are a good financial purchase without realising the effect that the high depreciation has on the overall cost of the purchase.

Its funny the suggestion that Skodas depreciate badly, not been my experience at all.

Sold an 11 plate Fabia vRS estate @ 18 months or so old to my dealer for 11.2k and it retailed for about 12.8; only paid about 15k for it, got my deposit back out of it give or take.

Had my 6 month old Blackline DSG estate valued last week. Paid 20k still work 16750 trade, so make it 17k. It'd sit on my dealers forecourt for 18.5k i bet. Again only in 200 pound of so negative equity that should true itself up in 6 months or so.

From what ive seen Skoda values seem to hold up well enough, nothing like as bad as the 2.5 year old Polo i had a few years ago where the finance shortfall was 1800 quid or so an was almost faced with VT'ing it.

To Finnish off what I posted before. I was once speaking to a sales guy I know from my days when I worked in the motor trade. We got speaking about discounts and the 0% apr, he said you won't get it on the octavia. That's when I said if I do buy another one, I will tell the sales guy to look at the bigger picture. My servicing is done here, timing belt and water pump, 2 brake fluid changes and an 02 sensor has been done here. I stay 170 miles away and could have easily taken the car to Inverness or even uphall in west Lothian when down in Dunfermline visiting family, and I'm a returning customer. If they don't want to play ball, I simply by another make. I don't want people to think I'm being some jumped idiot, I just expect the same loyalty I have showing the dealership that I bought the car off and continued to use for all the cars serving and repairs. I'm off for the next two weeks so when I'm down in fife for a visit I'm going to see what the garage in Dunfermline offers.

Quite agree; I like my local dealership and am on very good terms with the guy I bought my last two cars from but at the end of the day its not just business for them it is for me too.

Ive already had what i suspect to be a bit of a brush-off that they cant offer discount on a new vRS; whilst that be the case there are dozens of other Skoda dealerships I could easily travel to who may well give me the deal im looking for.

I am adamant that I will not buy another Skoda unless it is sensibly discounted in some way shape or form, be it they give me an overly strong part ex on my car, discount on the new one or a mixture of both. I like the new vRS but im absolutely not paying 24.5k for one as its definitely not 4.5k better than my current Mk2.

Be interesting to see if I do however buy a third Skoda...so far I am not so sure.
