How does the Fabia Jack operate

Featured Replies

Hi,

Stupid Question here. Got to work this morning and discovered that I had puncture. Went to change for the spare at lunch there and xcouldn't work out how to get the jkack to move from the position that it is in in the plastic mould inside the spare. Cuuld somebody please tell me, couldn't make much sense of the manual? As it happens the heavens have just opened so looks like I'll need to do it after work.

Need to phone the garage to order a replacement for the spare. Can somebody please confirm that the standard tyre for the Fabia 1.9TDi Elegance is a 185/60 R14? Don't want to get soaked again :)

Thanks,

Paul

To jack it up, I think you rest the jack under the sill (at an angle) and then wind it open. I used it once but I prefer the trolley jack as it looks more sturdy! And yep, that's the right wheel size for the Elegance

The part that looks like it should wind moves so far then comes into contact with the main body of the jack. That is where my confusion has come from. Do I need to do anything to the winding mechansim to get it ready for action, i.e. is it in a locked position at the moment?

Thanks for the feedback.

I have use it but it is well rubbbish. Only to be used in emergencies. I misaligned it at one point and the car almost slipped off it but I was lucky and it just made a scrape on the underside of the paint. It was not as good as the one in my Dad old volvo.

are you winding it the right way

the one in my octavia is exactly the same as in my other cars. use the winder and just keep turningclockwise(i think)

You just flip out the handle and wind away.

i was just about to start up the mis-quote engine then but decided not to in the name of public decency :o

Don't know what you could possibly mean bengie :naughty: ;)

Managed to get it working, it was just pretty tight as it had never been used.

Not that it did me much good, Got it jacked up, and removed all the wheel nuts to find that the wheel wouldn't come away! Didn't want to try too much force as I wasn't convinced that the jack would handle it.

Had to use my Skoda AA Cover and get the AA man out. Took him quite a bit of force with a leather mallet, plus his trusty trolley jack.
