Cambelt change time

Featured Replies

My 2003 Octy VRS had her cambelt changed by Skoda at 86k, she is now on 128k and the belt was done in 2008. Shall I get it done asap or can I leave it for a bit?  Also, what is the average cost for a cambelt kit for my car and how many hours does it take to fit as my local mechanic charges £50 per hour.

Skoda actually advise every 40k & 4 years IIRC.  VW quote 60k or every 6 years on the same AUQ engine.

Most manufacturers advise 60k or 6 years for cambelt change.

Just had the cambelt, tensioner, & water pump done on my car by my trusted independent which took about 3 hours & came to £240 inc labour & parts.

That is a really good price Paul :)  Will talk to my mechanic on Monday and hope he can come up with the same price as working out parts and labour I am looking at £360.

Been using them for a long time so I do get a bit of preferential treatment. I would of thought 300 to 350 would be about the norm.

Yeah £360 is a tad dear.  See if your local Skoda dealer can do an offer, usually they arent bad value.

Depends if they are changing the tensioner damper or not, seeing as they are £80 on their own it's not a bad price.
