Maxidot display and bolero

Featured Replies

I bet people are sick of reading about this subject but as hard as I try I cannot find a straight answer.

From what I can make out from various other threads I do not have a maxidot display on my 62reg vrs (see pic).

Am I correct in thinking that I cannot retrofit oem Skoda Bluetooth to my bolero as I don't have a maxidot display??

Many thanks

Tim.

I'm fairly sure everything can be controlled by the Bolero. I'll check mine later (columbus but the phone screen is the same) to see if you can pair phones etc. If you can, I see no reason why you would need maxi-dot.

(And just to confirm, you are correct that your trip computer is not maxodot).

It would be great if I could retro fit the Bluetooth unit as I don't really want a parrot.

Definitive answer. No you do not need maxidot to fit OEM bluetooth. You will get full functionality from the bolero screen. All maxidot will do is give an extra display on the dashpod and will allow you to control things like the phonebook and call start and end with the stalk switches. Without maxidot you only control the phone with the bolero touchscreen (or voice prompt)

Mike

Voice prompt? Definitely? This is counter to what I've read elsewhere. Thought there was no voice control via the OEM bluetooth module / bolero combo.

That's me getting excited. The voice prompt is there with the Columbus, but not the Bolero. I should know as SWMBOs Octavia has a 7P6 OEM Bluetooth married up to a Bolero. My own 5N0 OEM bluetooth with Columbus does have the voice control.

Sorry for the mis-information - but what I've said about the Bolero/BT combination not needing maxidot is correct.

Mike

You were getting my hopes up there! Voice control would be great but at least I now no for definite that it's not going to happen. I'll just make do with the Bolero screen or Maxi dot/wiper stalk combo.

So just to confirm I will be able to make and receive handsfree Bluetooth calls with the Bluetooth unit without a maxidot display???

Not bothered about voice control really, the parrot in my Leon has voice but I have never used it.

Yes. Via the Bolero screen.

Yep. I'll be getting one myself as soon as I take delivery of my car hopefully later this week.

Phone calls and BT audio streaming will work with Bolero & BT module as long as the BT module supports audio streaming.

I help fit & code a Bolero with a retro fit BT module so know it works without Maxidot.

Sorry for yet another question but will the free version of vcds code the bolero/Bluetooth unit to get it working?

The VCDS software is 'free'.

The officially supported and recommended cable isn't.

Do you mean the 'Lite' version? Then no as it only covers non-CAN vehicles (AFAIK).
