Almost there, they don't add anything. Proper brands ie BP, Shell, Texaco etc do add things to help the engine. Leaflets are available at every petrol station, and they will always have loads as no-one takes them. :D

I've given up using it after several thousand miles - OK so there's possibly a small performance improvement but no MPG improvement whatsoever and the 10p extra cost per litre isn't justified...

ive tried ultimate seemed ok but im now on optimax only 89.9p up here, does seem slightly better than ultimate or maybe its my driving

The optimax is Shell..Yes :) See you run a octy (petrol) Do they do Optimax deisel?

they do have a low sulphur diesel think its called diesel ultra

Shell Diesel Extra is similar to BP Ultimate - more detergent for a cleaner engine and higher cetane rating. Most of the Shell stations round here sell it instead of the normal diesel as it's the same price. I spose it sort of is Optimax (sorry Cetimax) Diesel.

Shell spiel is here

I've only run my Furby on Shell Diesel extra so I've got nothing else to compare it to and I've only done 1100 miles...

Bulls**t

Tried both BP Ultimate and Shell Extra (over 3 tanks) on my Fabia and saw no performance or economy improvement so I'm sticking with Tesco's finest ;)

Chris

Will go try find a Shell station then - hardly any left in this area now :(

BP bl**dy rip-off. 92p a liter for standard derv here. Saw some for 88p

I'm with you on this, there arent that many places where tankers pick fuel up from, do you think tesco have there own personal refineries in the east. Nah, they get it from the same storage units in the same place. an esso forcourt near me was recently converted to tesco, still esso though (dont give clubcard points) If the octane level of the fuel is still 98 then surely thats all that matters.

I'd love to see proof that tesco fuel is any different!!!!!!

I run my furby on this most of the time, only difference is that is runs smoother. It's expensive though lucky for me the local station c*cked up the prices by 10p a litre, so I took advantage of that. Dont you just love lots of 20l jerry cans!

I find ultimate really good and wont change back to normal

only seems to be 6p dearer a litre than the cheep tescos stuff

in winterbourne (Bristol) theres a safeway/BP garage which seems to have really low prices for the Ultimate Deisel so I always get it from there

I seem to get more miles per gallon and not noticed any smoke in yonks

also makes my driving loads smoother :D

I think it has improved things slight, but my average mpg over 4 tanks was 34 mpg. So i will stick to tesco i think.

I use Ultimate Diesel all of the time. I do find that it is slightly better in terms of perfomance and economy, but the main difference for me is the reduction in stereotypical 'diesel clatter'. When I run standard diesel, even from good brands, the clatter is more noticable. But another reason I use Ultimate is that it has improved engine protecting properties - I feel that this is important with a remapped engine, in the same way as regular servicing.

I use Tesco fuel, because I can splash and dash with the pay-at-pump, get cluncard points, and save money.

The day someone can prove Tesco fuel is any different to regular BP, Shell or Esso I'll eat my shoes.

Now there's a challenge I'd like to watch ;)

That's like saying that Tescos value cornflakes are the same as kelloggs!!! Obvioulsy, Tesco are playing the competitive pricing game - their profit margins are maintained by buying lower priced goods, including fuel. You pay a premium for fuels from BP, Shell etc. because they are better - fact... 'you pays your money, you makes your choice....

I tend to use standard Shell diesel in mine, it's even the same price as the nearby Tesco, so no guesses which one I go for! :)

Always interesting these debates over superfuels - I think the only way would be to go through two tanks of fuel, one standard and one super, without knowing which is which, and see if you could tell the difference?

All-in-all, I think a lot of it is psycological; it seems better because you think it should be...

Steve

Wardy,

I agree to a point - much of the performance gains etc. will be almost un-noticable. There is one thing that cannot be denied though - good quality fuels are better for your engine. That is the reason I buy ultimate. It works out as an extra
