Is this common? a known thing that happens on these?

You take it out and at the back there is like a metal thing that rubs. Just bodge it up a bit with tape or something.

its possible i guess but its defo metalic not a plastic rattle

Pull out the plastic cover in front of the clocks, pulls forward towards you.  Under you will see the clocks are held in place my two bolts.  tighten these, they can even come out and rattle around.

right checked both but still has this metalic rattle from deep in the dash, seriously getting fed up with this car now, had it 4 weeks and its problem after problem

Check the gear change cables that run from the gear stick to the gear box, they are just below the front bulkhead and should be in 2 clips to stop them touching the floorpan/bulkhead, I had to cable tie them together to stop a similar noise after a main dealer cam belt change.
