I bent my vent - easy fix?

Featured Replies

I didn't even knock it hard :(

Before I snap something, is there a technique I should know about for making these louvre things go back in place?

Apologies for worlds smallest pic....

I had that on my old fabia. I just made the vents flat, then they opened normally again, until someone fiddled with it.

I personally wasn't too bothered as it wasn't going to be one that would be changed around machine.

You will probably be able to get a replacement fairly easily, from a scrappy or probably ebay (Though I can only find drivers side ones using the search of Skoda Fabia air vent)

they are dead easy .... you flick the cover off then you can pull the whole unit out with by pressing the 4 silver tabs ..... then the slats push back in place .... then re assemble the vent and put the cover back on and push it in the hole

You can fix it yourself. They have likely just popped out of place. Pull the unit out, maybe in lip the fascia and realign the slats

Thanks for all the replies.

To get the unit out is it just brute force starting at the bottom?

not brute force just gentle pressure in each corner .... the face of the vent will pull away  ...... then there are 4 metal clips inside to remove the rest of the vent.

The use of plastic credit cards is a handy way of getting the vent removal started. Poke one down each side of the vent, and it just creates a little lip you can get a little bit of 'purchase' on to pull the thing out :)

I found that when my vent plates got push out (or bent) I had actually broke the location ring that the vent slat pin rotates in.

There was little point in popping the slat back into place as it just pops out again.

You can fix this with a drop of super glue & pushing the broken plasic back into place (basically closing the loop), but it a tricky job & you need to keep the channel where the slat pin travels clean or it will snag when you try to open/close the slats. This can result in broken slat pins & this is much harder to fix!!
