Just put my order in for a new company car, being supplied through a leasing group. Put my order in for a 2.0 Tdi Elegance hatch in Steel Grey, an hour later get an email back from the leasing group telling me that the dealer has advised that Steel Grey is no longer available! Gutted, took me ages to decide on what colour to go for and started to really like the colour option the more I saw of it 

 

I notice on the car configurator on the UK Skoda site that the grey is now called 'Platin grey metallic', I think im right in saying this is just a different name for the steel grey? I dont suppose this could have led them to saying the steel grey is not available and I just need to ask for the Platin Grey instead? 

 

Can anyone confirm that the Steel Grey/Platin Grey is not available anymore in the UK.

There's a debate about this from 2011 in the Yeti forum called "Is Platin Grey actually Steel Grey?" so it is not a new source of confusion.

 

The consensus was that it is the same colour and the code is 2G2G.

 

It may be worth checking with a dealer though.

 

My dealer showed me a colour chart & it showed steel grey & platin grey with the same ID number 2G2G.

When I queried this the dealer said Skoda changed the name as people were confusing steel grey with metallic silver so changed the name to platin grey. I have an order in for a steel grey Octy III so will confirm with dealer tomorrow just in case.

The colours on the config & brochure are nothing like reality & appear to be a much darker grey than the actual colour.

I've just noticed that the Rosso Brunello (dark red) metallic has disappeared from the configurator too. A dealer told me last week that they were having trouble making it for some reason.

Tried to change my order to Platin Grey but was immediate told its not available. The leasing group supplied me with a list of available colours, the Steel Grey and Rosso Brunello had been removed but there was a new colour of Rio Red metallic available, I haven't seen this colour certainly on the UK website or the latest brochures. 

 

Anyway, I have opted to change my order to Race Blue,  expected delivery is the 1st week of November, so got a long but worth while wait till she arrives.
