Steel Grey

Featured Replies

Just had a call from my dealer. The colour Steel Grey will no longer be available from week 37, and I ordered that colour but still no build week.  :'(

The dealer didn't know whether outstanding orders would be honoured, or if I had to select an a new colour, because the factory is shutdown for 2 weeks and they are unable to get additional information.

Anybody know more about the alternative grey colours?

In Norway too the steel grey colour (Platin Grey) cannot be specified at the moment.

Isn't Platin Grey the replacement for Steel Grey in the UK but basically a similar colour ?

The colour code for Platin Grey is 2G2G.

There is another thread yesterday "Steel grey no longer available"

Might give Skoda UK a call as I have one on order in steel grey.

Please keep us updated. I have steel grey on order too. Estimated build week 34

As I have an order in for a steel grey Octy 3 I telephoned Skoda UK & they confirm steel grey is discontinued from week 37. I asked about platin grey & it is the name the factory use for steel grey. Whatever name is used it will not be available from week 37. He was not able to say what happens to existing orders that move into week 37 & beyond. I have been given build week 33, but if that slips I would be forced to choose a different colour. Not a good situation but hoping it's built before week 37.

Yeah I tried to order my company car yesterday in steel grey and later Platin Grey but without any luck, I was going to go for Brilliant Silver as there are no alternative grey's, but in the end opted for Race Blue. Strangely the colour Rio Red was offered as available which was an option I haven't seen anywhere before.

Stubbled across the Czech Skoda web site earlier, amazing how much more colour options are available some 50-60 options compared to our limited and decreasing options here in the UK.

Keep your keys safe!! It is obviously a colour that some people want so why discontinue it with no alternative. Skoda must feel they can make people wait for months, change the spec at the drop of a hat & now remove some popular colours. Brand loyalty will start to wear thin if they are not careful. This will be only my 2nd Octavia, but with so much choice out there I am tempted to cancel the order & go for another marque.

So Skoda drop the window chrome, but it's still available on another premium VAG brand. They now drop the colour that is very popular on another premium VAG brand.

Conspiracy?

If the car doesn't come in the colour, what to do go for Racing Blue or Black but starting to think about cancelling my order and look at alternatives.

But which one, I don't like the Passat or Golf Estate, the A4 is smaller, as is the 3 series.

A quick look at website last night and there's not a lot out

2nd hand A6 or 5 series

Wait for the Superb, but is it going to have the same production issues

Hyundai i40

Maybe now is the time for those of us affected to voice our concerns & the fact that we are looking elsewhere to Skoda UK. I doubt they will ever read forums like this. In have found that nothing focuses company minds more than losing sales & bad publicity.I feel a letter of complaint coming on.

The just-out Mk7 Golf Estate?  I assume it is a lot better than the old one, being the same platform as the Octy3.  I think the boot is 5 litres smaller than the Combi, though the wheelbase and length are a touch smaller (2686mm vs 2637 and 4659 vs 4562) so rear legroom will be a bit less.

A colleague of mine is due to change his company car and seemed to be impressed with mine (he has a top spec Scenic at the moment) but I think the badge is putting him off (in all other respects, he seems quite intelligent :giggle: ). He has the i40 on his shortlist, because the top one is loaded with kit, but I think it is getting dated.

I think his favourite option at the moment is the 3 Series GT as he feels it addresses the packaging issues of the normal 3 estate (he is 2 levels above me, so his a bigger allowance to play with!) but I suspect the list / P11D price will be huge.  I come from a A4 B8 and loved it, but now realise how space inefficient it was...

Back on topic, I have been quite shocked at the amount of spec churn: colours, chrome windows (I should have had these), Front Assist delays (I didn't get it), talk of Elegance losing elec folding mirrors etc - and that is just the UK.  The non-UK specs seems to vary hugely.

Haha - and he comes from a Renault (careful what I say - my wife has a 4yo Megane!).

Had a conversation with one of the bosses at the dealership & he had been onto Skoda UK & confirmed no steel grey from build week 37. As mine is week 33 he cannot forsee it going back 4 weeks as my spec is straightforward. If it did for any reason then my only option would be to choose another colour.

Really don't know more that I already did, so fingers crossed for build week to stay at 33,34,35 or 36. No new orders are now being accepted in steel grey as they would be beyond week 37 already.

Could you imagine if they did that with Race Blue, as there are so many people who have ordered it. (I have mine).

Skoda seem to have a really strange logic. if people like somehting, STOP doing it!!! who thinks that up.

I only hope that people who HAVE to change the colour of their car do not get put to the back of the queue.

Well if that happened to me it would be goodbye Skoda. I like the cars but there are too many other makes out there.

SWMBO has already questioned why we haven't gone for something else. My present Octy was a demo & I had it a couple of weeks after visiting the dealer.

I am sure I read on here (might have been one of the European forums) that a new "metal grey met. " Would be available from 11/11, whatever week number that is.

This is probably the " new grey" so to speak.

I would not be prepared to wait until week 46. Skoda are also discontinuing Rosso Red and replacing it with an alternative red & from what I read that change will take place straight away so why stop steel grey in week 37 & introduce a new grey in week 46?

All very good questions. It's not like there's a problem with the grey because otherwise they would stop it immediately or, if it's a supply issue, they wouldn't give us an exact week it would stop.
