Steel Grey

Featured Replies

I would not be prepared to wait until week 46. Skoda are also discontinuing Rosso Red and replacing it with an alternative red & from what I read that change will take place straight away so why stop steel grey in week 37 & introduce a new grey in week 46?

I think the Rosso Red has been unavailable for at least a couple of weeks now, and the new Rio Red is not being introduced until week 37, so the timescales are similar.

The problem is that having placed an order in week 26 & potentially having to wait until week 46 plus 3 weeks delivery would mean an overall wait of 23 weeks for the chosen colour. That is not acceptable when the change between one colour and another could be done simultaneously. I just hope my build week doesn't slip into week 37.

My Dealer told me today, that Skoda have said that if you have ordered a car in steel grey and the order status is A then it will be built in that colour. Hurray, my order has the A

However that is only if you have a build week allocated. Booo, my order doesn't have a build week, it's even lost it's provisional week.

So hopefully when everybody at the factory has finished show round their holiday snap, somebody will sort this mess out and I get good news on Monday when my dealer is going to chase up.

Just had a look at the copy dealer sent me of the Skoda internet screen they view & status code shows 10 & "with production week" printed next to it. Build week still showing 33. Don't see anywhere a code "A".

Hope I get some more info soon. Maybe a call to someone in authority at Skoda UK might get you some more info. Brand loyalty is sure being tested by them.

Maybe somebody should get the like of auto express involved in this mess with skoda. They are good at getting answers.

I am sure I read on here (might have been one of the European forums) that a new "metal grey met. " Would be available from 11/11, whatever week number that is.

This is probably the " new grey" so to speak.

I looked at a UK website called Orangewheels. Metal Grey was listed as one of the colour options for the new vRS so I assume that it is the confirmed replacement for Steel Grey / Platin Grey.

Kalpat, I can only pass on the information my dealer is telling me (I may ask him for a screen shot) but as yours is being built next week maybe that's why you don't see an A

Maybe Meteor grey is the replacement and Metal grey becomes a VRS only colour

Looking at the Orangewheels website again, it seems to be the other way round; Metal grey is available with any model but Meteor Grey is vRS only.

I have looked at the website, and you are correct. But I could find anything that said the Steel Grey was stopping or when Metal Grey started.

From the Superb announcement this is what Metal Grey looks like

http://new.skoda-auto.com/en/models/superb/new-superb/

To me it looks s lighter shade of grey than the Steel, but that could just be the picture.

You can get an impression of the new Metal Grey on a Rapid here:

Thanks, a better picture but it still looks lighter and not available for several weeks after steel grey stops, so more delay if I selected it.

Think it depends how the light is falling on it:

This is what I got from SUK at the end of last month

"The Octavia vRS is available in the following colours..........

Exclusive to the vRS

Meteor Grey................"

And

"Steel Grey from 09 September 2013

Rio Red Metalic from 09 September 2013

Metal Grey Matallic from 11 November 2013"

I'm confused over this 50 shades of skoda grey!  I'm none the wiser about whether Steel grey is stopping or not.  Must admit I thought that the comment on Steel grey probably meant "to" 9 Sept rather than "from".

That's why I've chosen Rio Red!

Definitely looks better in that picture.

But to wait another 7 weeks for the other shade of grey, it may have to be an alternative colour if I still have build week 36. But personally, I think the only colours that work with black window surrounds and roof bars, are the grey, black and white. Everything else needs the chrome. Maybe my opinion would have been different if I hadn't seen the chrome option.

I wonder why they stopped the Platin Grey... hope it's not for quality issues because mine will come with that color

I ordered my VRs estate a couple of weeks ago, for delivery in January as i'm having an op at the end of September. Gone for white but I'm having second thoughts. I've got a white one now & it's a pain to keep clean!! I'm quite liking the Metal grey, the Corrida red looks good & I like the green (other half isn't so keen, thinks its too big a car!!) Steel Grey would have been my first choice before it was removed.

What are peoples opinions on the colour choices I'm looking at?

Cheers!

This is the first time I see Metal Grey. In Norway they also took away Platin gray as an option and replaced it with Metal Grey. But no picture of the color. Frustrating! I like the Metal Grey color.

To me that looks very much like what they used to call Anthracite, it was a colour choice I was give a few years ago. Very classy.

What other greys have their been on Octavia IIIs already built?  Mine is coming from UK stock, and is in "something" Grey.  It's not steel grey, and it's not in the brochure, but I can't remember the name and my sales executive has been away for the last couple of days.  He has assured me that it's similar to steel grey, although he's new to Skoda.

Assuming that it can't be metal grey (as that won't be used until November and so can't be on a car already in the UK), and that it's not steel grey, what other grey could it be, and does anyone know what it looks like?  I know that I could wait until my sales exec is back in, but I can't wait!

Platin grey?

Steel grey & Platin grey were one & the same. Dealers used the name steel grey but the factory called it Platin grey. Both had the colour code 2G2G. Apart from Meteor grey haven't seen any others mentioned.
