Suspension Technical nightmares

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

This is my first topic in this forum and a not so good start.

My daily taxi tdi 140PD was due some suspension work as the car started having its own mind on where to go on the road etc.

I own this car since September 2012 and while I was looking for a reliable and cheap to run car on the road this did not go as I expected.

So for the last week I have the car on stands for removing old suspension stuff and replacing with new.

So new shocks and polybushes are in the queue ready to go in the place they belong to.

Unfortunately not everything goes as per plan.

Old shoks take lots of hammering to come out, all the bolts are stuck,

So I have my mapp torch and big lump hammer next to me as my best friends.

Anyway to cat the long story short yesterday it was the time for the console bushes to come out so as I can press the polybushes in.

Everything went nice and easy until the inner of the two small bolts decided to give up. So now I have something like this:

So my question is:

Has anyone experienced anything like this before?

What was your solution?

Because I don't expect anything to happen if I use a stud extractor I am towards drilling through the remaining bolt and then drill through the sub frame and fit a bolt with a locking nut.

Since the same happened with the other bush on driver side I just took my grinder out and chopped the bolt head to release the console bush but I am towards the same fix on that side too.

I believe this happened because of the mechanic the previous owner used to replace the bushes at some point, just reused the stretch bolts without measuring them to ensure they were good to be refitted.

Finally frustration only

I hope that I ll fix this car so as I can make some good use of the money and time spent on it.

Yes you're correct. I experienced a similar issue but was fortunate that once the bolt had sheared it could be undone by hand. Also do not lubricate the bolts. They need to go in dry.

hope you mange to fix the problem, previous person probably overtightened the bolts as I didn't have any problems removing my console bolts
