Hi all,

 

Had a new recon steering rack fitted and have a few issues (frustratingly).  Fitted by independent VAG mechanic but I'm away on holiday in the UK so hoping I can get some advice from you folk...

 

• Rack is heavier than previous leaking rack, no steering assist options have been changed in VAGCOM.  Cars set to lightest.  
• Wheel doesn't self centre when turning, you have to turn into a corner then almost turn back to straight
• It whines audibly, even with the engine off so can't be the pump

 

Please take a listen to the clip and chuck some ideas my way...

Can't hear the sound clip.

But for the heaviness / not returning to the centre, I'd be looking into removing the track rod ends. Centralising the arms and carrying out wheel alignment again.

Does it not download and play?  

 

Right, something for me to pass onto the mechanic.   The sound is resemblant of opening and closing a zip bag (i.e. suitcase).  Sounds to me like something is rubbing more than it should be.  

 

Anyone who can identify the sound? (if the clip works)

I'm the same, the clip appears to download, plays but there is very little or no sound content.

I've uploaded a better version of the sound clip.  Anyone else able to listen and advise?  Never heard a sound like this before.
