Slow vrs

Featured Replies

Think the vrs is losing power from somewhere but not sure where. Only fault code is the SAI pump code which i have pretty much ignored at this stage. Anybody know where the power loss is coming from? Boost leak perhaps? Wouldn't this show up on the Vag test?

Loosing power, as in a lot of power?  Check for boost leaks, firstly the 2 pipes that run down by the inlet mani'.......Also, when did she have a proper full service as in oil, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter, plugs.....And what fuel are you running her off?

Well i would say enough power loss to be noticable. I can only stay with my mates 95 2.0 ltr hyundai coupe! Should be able to overtake with no problem at all. Would a standard service deliver that much power? It probably does need a service oil and filter look like they could do with a change but ive seen a lot worse. Plugs im not sure about they might need to be done too i only have the car 3 months so not sure if they were ever done. Its rep of ireland fuel so its running off 95 ron its cheap fuel but again would the power drop off that much? Will check for a boost leak thanks for the info Brickhouse good stuff there.

First thing I would do mate is give her a really good service :)  Change the plugs for some NGK copper ones, you can get them off Ebay for less that £10, use genuine 5-30 VW Fully Synth oil (Around £25 for 5 litres)  Get a VW/Skoda oil filter and a VW/Skoda air filter, you will be shocked at how well she will perform if she has not had a good service for some time. Also some freebies......Remove the throttle body and give it a really good clean with a dry cloth, get all the black gunk off the insides, and when you change your air filter put a hoover pipe in the air filter housing and suck up all the old little leaves etc.

As for just keeping up with a Hyundai Coupe, you should be all over it ;)

I would be more inclined to check for boost leaks than think a service will do wonders if the power loss is that noticeable. Not that a service is a bad thing on a newly purchased car. I tend not to trust previous owners for servicng unless you have good proof.

i would also get the car diagnosed to see if any fault codes appear as the first thing to do after a new purchase.  Then you know you are clean.

A split in a turbo hose or breather hose can really sap the power from the car and sometimes will cause your car to go into limp mode.

You should get nice solid boost from around 2500 rpm and take you through the rev range.

Does car feel it is miss firing , or just down on power. You need to be a little more detailed buddy for a better answer to steer you but i would certainly plug the  car into a code reader as a start.

Good luck.

i would say either boost leak or leaking diaphram on the diverter valve

but these cars typically

Its not mis firing just down on power. Ive put it through the vag code reader came up with a secondary air systems incorrect flow p0411. its the SAI pump but this shouldn't cause a loss of power. There is no other codes showing. Will a boost leak show up on the vag tester?

Worth a call to your local Skoda to see if your coil packs were done on the recall yet or not.

Might not be the problem but it definitely won't do any harm.

Sometimes a boost leak does not throw a code.

Have you removed your engine covers and taken a good look around the gearbox side top of engine. There is  a Y pipe (breather) that is prone to splitting.

Also under inlet manifold there is a S pipe that is common to split.

If you can't see anything obvious,  best to get a smoke test done to check for leaks.

And also as stated won't hurt to check coil packs. Old ones are prone to failing and Skoda have a recall on them. Although I would expect you to have a miss fire with a dodgy coil pack.
