Could you advise me on buying a Skoda Octavia vRS? :)

Yes, my problem is that I will be 21 soon, I've got a driving license from 3 years now

Sorry to be a real kill joy here as maybe it is just my tender age of nearly 40!  With you being 20 years old and looking at buying a 140+ mph car with a standard 180bhp......Please be careful.   You will love one, just take it nice and easy till you get used to her if you buy one ;)

Thanks for your concern :) Actually I am quite scared to drive fast here in the UK because of the police and the hidden cameras as I am new in the country but to be honest I started my first rally race just a week after I got my driving license at the age of 18 and my Corsa is about 160 bhp on 900 kg, so I would say the Octavia will be something similar, but the rally car is still a rally car :) I will drive at my hometown rally in the beginning of September and I am considering of streaming a live onboard from the Super Special Stage, so if that happens, I'll post the link here.

I have two onboards if you want to have a look guys

And a big moment for me last year, thank God for the happy consequences for me and my codriver and the spectators. That happened with nearly 120 km/h on 3rd gear and 6000 revs :)

So, that is why I am after the vRS, I want something that I can drive normally with good fuel consumption, but when I want to flat out /Not on the roads of course, I am really against that/ haha and make me happy :)

Proper little rocket

you might be a little bit disappointed with the vRS in comparison

Guessing your Corsa is about 7 seconds 0-60 ?

Guessing about 160+bhp/tonne

Standard Octavia vRS is in the region of 140 bhp/tonne - 0-60 in circa 8 seconds

On the handling front, the stock vRS will handle like a volvo/whale hybrid in comparison

ps

If you want to find rallying in the UK - head west into Wales

Lots of clubs

From what I have read for around £150 you can get a big rear anti roll bar that is meant to help greatly with handling?

Nice smooth tarmac, yes

Undulating terrain, no

ps

not with that long wheelbase

ARB across a torsion beam acts like a spring - reducing bodyroll at the expensive of ability to soak up bump basically

That's my experrience of both oem vrs's and arb'ed up vrs's

I guess if you where using as a rally car you could try out a few thickness's - choose a comprise for terrain

My starting point would be to rip that pony diff open-diff out and put a kaaz in

Or you could stop off in the Czech republic and pick up some goodies

Thank you for that information mate but honestly the car wouldn't be used much as a recce car and in the cases when it is used for these purposes I can't drive it as if I am on a rally, the thing is during the reconnaissance we have to keep up to the road speed limits, sometimes we push a bit harder to check the pacenotes but it is not as fast as on the rally as there is traffic also. It will only be used as a standard car, maybe I may consider to put coilovers but the whole body should be strengthened for the coilovers.. So far, I've used my father's car for the recce, a Ford Focus 2007 estate and a Ford Focus 2012 estate afterwards and didn't have any problems haha.

a mk.1 vrs rally car would be an interesting project though ;)

Somebody should have a go

Lot more fun than a track car

We had an Octavia Cup in Bulgaria looong time ago /1998-2000/, but these models were not vRS, they were just standard cars with little improvements on the suspension and ECU, three of them were used as zero cars on rallies after the end of this championship being replaced by Fabia Cup but I don't know what is the destiny of the other, maybe, 20 cars. But yes, a vRS will be an interesting project definitely :)

Hey mate, that is great news, however I can't buy it straight away unfortunately because I am not ready with the money, I was just inquiring about the car and there is a forthcoming rally event for me, so I don't know how much money I will have to spend on it. If you are not selling the car urgently, please tell me the price and if you can post some detailed pictures here in the topic that would be great. I would be looking to buy it maybe around November :)

hi its up for sale at the mo but not in a massive hurry as my new car isnt being built by skoda untill 30th september so i wont see it till mid october ill put some pics on for you im looking for around £1995 for it

Okay, I will wait to see the photos and could you please tell me some more tech information about the car, what is done really and what should be done :)

Thank you for the post, car looks nice and spec-wise is quite good. The thing that I've always wondered about UK cars is when it says mileage, is that counted in miles or kilometers, because it makes a lot of difference :)

It's in miles mate I know it has a few on the clock but most of its been replaced eg suspension gearbox steering and the rest of the car you could easily knock 100000 miles off the total

Okay mate, thanks for the info, if it's not been sold until mid November or December, I'll give you a call to come and see it, I know it's too early now but still need to save up some money :)
