Badge Snobbery

Featured Replies

Having borrowed the mother in laws Citigo for Sunday's mega meet I really didn't want to give it back. Even on the motorway blast over to Gaydon (which is my normal daily commute) I considered it comfortable and reasonably quiet considering. Did suffer a touch with the high winds and being blown about but as clever as it is it can't defy physics.

That Tiff fella is always blasting around in a Ferrari, Porsche or any other suitable car they can tell you about that go over 150+mph to show off their driving skills, burn rubber etc. So put them in a car like the Up, Citigo or Mii and what are they going to tell you, not a great deal. They can't burn the blasted rubber off the rims, they can't get the rear end out, so they bore you with picking fault with the blandness of the interior, or the rather disappointing 0-60 time or it's got a lot of body roll. If the tuth be known they don't really want to be in them so they just think of something uninteresting to report about them.

For goodness sake it's not an F1 car, but they think it should be able to compete with one.

Anyways I found out about the Skoda marque way back when I owned an Estelle, that was back when Skoda really was a badge you didn't want to own, or so they used to tell you. Although I'm only on my third Skoda now, the second a Felicia I've always had an urge, (if that's the correct phrase) to own another, hence the Citigo.

I parked up one day to shop and when I returned there were two guys looking around the Citigo then started asking me about it.They told me they had a bet with each other that when they were looking at it from a distance one said it was a Vauxhall and the other a Ford. They didn't believe it when I pointed to the rear end badge and said it's a Skoda as they didn't recognize the front badge.

So far it's great, it does the job I require of it although sometimes I wish it could hold more grandkids, and got the power to overtake a line of slow moving (Sunday, or even in the week) drivers all at once. Apart from that I'm chuffed to bits with it, and it doesn't matter what the badge says on the front, glad it says Skoda.

Oh I did actually get the tyres to screech the other day when taking on an island, I shouldn't have really, red mist I think came over me, watch out Tiff!
