USB camera decided to stop working

Featured Replies

Hi all, I brought an China ebay special endoscope usb camera.

it worked great for 5 days, had it plugged in as a cctv cam got it streaming using yawcam and everything was great.

It was showing as generic UBS 2.0 camera

Then one day it decided not to work, did not even show as a device.

I rolled back windows to the 1st day it worked, no change, reinstalled all updates available, still not working.

What happening is, sometimes I plug it in, I get the sound play and it states that unknown device failed to install, then if I unplug it and try again, I get nothing, not even the windows bing bong sound.

I have tried it on a windows 8 laptop, it didn't do anything.

There are no driver files for the camera.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I've tried un-installing all the USB hub drivers in device manager and it just re-installed them on restart but still no USB camera showing.

Meh

I assume you are using it in the same USB port??

I have had issues with some things working perfectly in one port, but not in another; in fact right now I have a card reader that will not work with a USB port connected directly to the mobo, but works perfectly with a hub connected to the adjacent socket on the mobo!!

It doesnt hurt to try a different port, but it may well be it has died and needs returning (if possible).

Have tried all 3 ports I have still no look

Laptop saw it today as unknown device, then in device manager it kept appearing, then 10 seconds later disappearing, 10 seconds re-appear and so on.

The led's still light up so its getting power.

I take it there is fireware or software actually 'in' the camera then which could be fried?

The "kept appearing, then 10 seconds later disappearing, 10 seconds re-appear" is what my card reader does in some ports; I do wonder if it is a power issue.

Do you have a powered hub you could plug it in to?? It could be the mobo regulators are complaining it is drawing too much current.
