Cat Heatshield/guard?

Featured Replies

Im sure thats whats causing a tapping noise when pulling off or putting my foot down, and having looked at it it seems as though the back half of it is not fixed to anything, I dont want to rip it as so whats the best way to fix it?

Im guessing its the cat, its the section of the exhaust right underneath the car towards the front

The centre exhaust mount welds break away from the pipe, you can usually improve it by clamping a suitably sized Jubilee clip around it.

Best solution is to remove the heatshield. The fasteners will have corroded to pieces, so the other option is to weld it on, but not really worth the effort.

My cat heatshield went in the bin years ago.

I put some metal cable ties on mine. Would of pulled it off but my job means I end up parking on long grass a lot.

having a good look at it i think it is the hanger that is causing the problem and not the heatshield, cheers guys

its meant to stop you setting grass alight when you stop on long grass (if you ever do) iirc.

i ran one car without (and without issue) and another one a cable tied on with a metal cable tie (as its quite big bore for a jubilee).

Should sort it out if you do this.

Mine was hanging off and scraping speed bumps, the slightest tug and it came off so it's now sat in my garage with no issues
