Felicia pickup / Fun info please!

Featured Replies

Hey guys, looking for some info on the above!

My friend has a vw caddysport (8v gti engine) which is a fantastic car, we are keen mountainbikers and its great as a multiuse vehicle. This one also has a removable fully Tiled paddling pool in the back...

anyway...

I reckon a felicia pick up might be a good buy for me, Newer engines, nicer interior, etc, presumably cheaper!

But I need to know more.

I would love a Fun model, as ideally i dont want to be stuck with just 2 seats... how much do these models tend to go for? as opposed to a regular 'white' one.

Also, anyone know anywhere that sells the Fun/Caddysport bodykit?

Absolutely any info or links to do with these is appreciated.

Cheers!

Skoda pick up's in general vary in price depending on spec and condition. The regular pick up is available with the 1.3 and 1.6 petrol and a 1.9 SDi. Its the 1.6 petrol (75bhp) that powers the Fun, its a Polo engine mated to the Skoda gearbox, not brilliant but pretty frugal and the pick up only just tips 1000kgs so moves along ok.

Prices for the Fun seem to range from around

Thanks, just done a search and was about to PM you.

Does it run on coils or leafs at the back? The VW is on leafsprings but this looks to have different wheelarch housings.

How do you find the car to live with generally?

I presume theres no such thing as a non 'fun' with the slidey seats, and that this would be pointless/difficult to do?

What can be done to the engine? I presume if its a polo there plenty of spares/filters/etc for them.

Im thinking a standard one and then try and get a caddy/fun bodykit to match might be the way forward.

Whats insurance/economy like? I cant find any info from parkers.

Im on a budget you see!

'Scuse all the questions but this seems like the ideal car for me, not your usual either!

Converting a regular pick up to fun spec would be nigh on impossible, the back of the cab is a different shape.

Coil spings on the rear which is why I struggled with finding lowering springs and decided to go mental with the air kit. Front suspension however is the same as the Felicia hatch.

Exhaust and filter will give you a little more from the engine, as would cam head work I guess. Personally looking at swapping the engine in its entirety.

Insurance was a little tricky myself. Being a mechanic not many places wanted to insure me on what is classed as a commercial vehicle for social and domestic use.

Living with the Fun is great, its just like a car to drive but comes in handy alot to shift stuff about.....

 That freezer is bigger than some peoples house

To lower the rear can't you put the axle above the rear leaf springs a la Caddy???

What engine comes in the Fabia VRs, The 1.9tdi?

130 bhp PD engine.

You can take the 130 up to quite a reasonable level of power for not that much dosh (comparatively). Or you can take it up to a LOT of power for a LOT of dosh.

If you take it higher than that again you're looking at major, major modifications and it gets silly to not drop in a 1.8T or similar engine imho (as they can tune a lot higher)
