Enable other rear fog light?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Checking the car recently for it's MOT I *thought* I'd lost a bulb for the nearside rear fog light.

research on here seems to point to only one being required by law (offside). Even my old cavalier had two. :D

I have a friend who has a full VCDS package.

I noticed that I have an extra plug on the offside rear cluster, but disconnecting this does not affect the fog light.

So can the nearside be enabled by VCDS, as the wiring appears to be the same as the offside?

TIA

I have an 8 year old (2005) Fabia VRS.

I fed a live feed from the offside loom wiring ( having pinpointed the correct feed wire) to the nearside rear lamp cluster multi-connector.

You need a very, very small male spade, (something like a speaker spade) to push through the rear of light bulb multi-connector onto the light bulb female spade.

I placed a low 5amp inline fuse incase of a power load problem, but as of the moment has worked a treat, for the last 4 years.

It's strange that both sides are identical in some respects, when it comes to comparing the connectors etc., and with the double element bulbs being already fitted.

It's the multi-connector that clip onto the light cluster for the feed etc that is different from offside to nearside.

Using the VCD would not have worked, with me knowing there was no feed to the connector to illuminate the fog-light bulb element, in the first place...

Thanks, I'll inspect the multi-connector on the nearside. Would be nice to have, but I've had the car almost a year now, and have got by without it, never realising it did not have dual rear fog lights. :D

I enabled the rear nearside foglight on my previous 2002 Octavia Estate by running a live feed from the offside to nearside foglight. IIRC, the nearside cluster has the bayonet fitting for the bulb but no wiring for it so maybe it needs an earth connecting as well. There is no coding involved.

Opps! Beaten to it by giandougl.

yes i have done it this way too on several cars including my mk2 golf and a couple of t2 camper vans. The theory is the same tho.
