Advice Needed...:) VRS Estate or Yeti Adventure...? Petrol or Diesel...?

That sounds about break even point I think. There are others who will probably be able to offer better advice, but at that sort of mileage i would go with the petrol rather than the devils fuel.

The biggest issue you can have I understand is with the DPF and short mileages/trips, which can seriously affect fuel consumption so i believe. So you really need to consider whether the driving regime the car will undertake will suit your engine choice.

I do around 42 miles on the weekday and 10-20 miles during the weekends...I think Petrol but not sure tbh...:/

I think you need some advice from someone who already runs a diesel on how that mileage may affect longevity of the DPF. I would imagine that it would not be an issue as it is probably going to get a good blow through during the week to make it work. Unless of course you daily drive is a 10 mph nose to tail grind.

I have a 100 mile a day round trip which is predominatly on two motorways with the majority of the rest being on A roads. As such I am hoping the diesel will be fine. And as long as I can get at least 50 mpg I am going to be very happy and save myself a heap of cash. Hopefully I will be able to achieve better and save even more than what the Fabia is costing me to run.

Sorry if I sound a little sceptical even though I have ordered a diesel. My only defence is that I had an early Peugeot with a DPF that ended up being bloody useless. The money I threw at it, and the money I could have spent to put it right, eventually tempted me to p/ex and get shot. Always swore I would never go back to a diesel until I changed my job earlier this year and am now doing the high mileage that I am.

Getting to work I mainly use the A roads and Motorway. 10 miles is As and 10 is Motorways each way which gives in total 40...Did look at the petrol but Tax costs and Average Fuel Consumption did put me off and we think we might go for a Diesel now...Any more advice will be much appreciated...;)

I think we will go with the Diesel Octavia but not sure about the version...Estate or Hatch...? We are planing to have up to within 2-3 years. Will hatch be big enough if we have 2 kiddies...?

Why not have a good look at the 4x4 Octavia? It's available now with the 2.0 TDI and it would still be cheaper than the VRS. Too bad you guys don't get the 1.8 TSI 4x4. With your mileage the TDI should be fine. You don't seem to be too interested in the "sporty" part of the VRS anyway, am I right? :)

Why not have a good look at the 4x4 Octavia? It's available now with the 2.0 TDI and it would still be cheaper than the VRS. Too bad you guys don't get the 1.8 TSI 4x4. With your mileage the TDI should be fine. You don't seem to be too interested in the "sporty" part of the VRS anyway, am I right? :)

 

I actaully love the ''Sporty'' part of teh VRS hence I didn't even consider the other options...:)

Slotty I have 2 kids, and have a current MK2 Octavia, I can fit 2 prams in the boot (Bugaboo, Cameleon & Bee)  and there is still room for other bags etc.

 

Octavia boots are MASSIVE, and the MK 3 is even bigger.  The only thing that you get with the Estate, is a bit more room above your parcel shelf. I have never ever needed this tiny bit of space.  The boot is actually a few L smaller in the estate.  its just slightly taller at the back where the slope would have been.  To me that seems pointless.  so therefore go for what ever you think looks best.

 

If you find that the hatch mk3 is still too small for you with 2 kids,  I think you need to reconsider your packing.

what I would say is though, VRS estate is available NOW,

That helps a lot...the hatch version it's around £800 cheaper and if hatch is big enough for the family with two little ones I think the hatch is the one to pick and money saved comparing to the estate one can be spend on the extras...:)

exactly, £800 is a Columbus upgrade on my Elegance, so I can get the wee uns to watch DVDS when I get the video in motion unlocked.

I did think about the Petrol one but the Toad Tax and not huge difference in the price between diesel and petrol pushed me towards the diesel. I'm also 27 years old at the moment and need to consider the insurance...I did a quote on the diesel VRS and it was £600.00 ish a year. I reckon the petrol one will cost me around £1000.00 bit I might be wrong....

Result...Myslef and my wife deiced that we are going to buy the brand new Car next year in June/July. Just need to save the nice sum for the deposit. The only dillema I have now is...Which one...? I love the look of the Octavia but New Yeti Looks really really nice and not sure what to do...

Wait for Seat Leon ST next spring. It'll be the same size as Octavia Estate, will have all the toys of O3 but multilink suspension at the back as standard and in FR trim you will be able to add Golf's Dynamic Chassis Control (not even an option on vRS). Seat UK also confirmed there will be 4x4 and 1.8TSI with and without DSG. There is currently nothing in UK Skoda arsenal to match it. Plus going purely by current Leon range it probably will be considerably cheaper than O3 models as well.

Really depends on what you personally want.

 

We have had Yetis since my son was six months old and don't struggle with boot space.

We will on longer trips once child two arrives.  Might need a roof box.

But we are not the people that feel the need to take a child's table, chairs, bike, climbing frame and trampoline every time we visit the family.

However, I don't need any boot at all for 95% of all my trips, with the Octavia I've be carting a larger boot than I need about all of the time.  The Yeti being only 4.2m with a decent wheelbase does have it's advantages.

 

In my opinion these are the positives and negatives comparing the two.

 

Yeti:

+ Higher driving position, better visibility.

+ Higher resale values, it's never going to be as common.

+ The 4x4 models are very capable on the road.  Forget needing to drive up dirt tracks, 4x4 gives real benefits on the road too.

- Boot space is a bit small. (or very small if you are used to an Octavia 3)

- It will probably have the older engines than the updated ones in the Octavia 3.

+ Lots of space.

+ Newer platform, newer updated engines.

+ Some nice options if you splash the cash.

- They are going to be very common, good for blending in.

- They will depreciate more, so you'll lose more money on one.

He's talking about the ST version (the estate). It's just a tiny bit smaller the the Golf/Octavia estate. It was something like 580 liters of space.

 

So it's worth having a look if you can have the patience to wait for it.

Nice rply Rich...Esp like the pros and cons...Do you reckon we will get the new engines for the new yeti...???

 

I hope so as new look of it it's really tempting and I really like it...:)

Unlikely, the facelifted Superb still had the 170 diesel, so I'd expect the Yeti to keep that too.  We'll find out in a couple of months.

The Octavia has the slightly more powerful top diesel, which seems to only come as part of the new MQB platform.
