2009 superb not starting

Any ideas what to do next? I have vag com so hopefully I can solve the problem with that?

If you have VagCom/VCDS and not just an generic OBD code reader, then post the 5-digit fault codes. The first thing I'd do is look for signs of water ingress in the plenum chamber

I'm pretty sure it's an immob fault.

But there is no light on the dash to suggest its the immob? There isn't even a light in the cluster with the car outline with the key thru it so if it is the immob there is light I can see on the cluster that would flash.

Cars really starting to confuse me

Late in the day but you have checked all the fuses in the car? especially the under bonnet ones.

Yeah they all seem fine

batteries in the remote fobs having nothing whatsoever to do with the immob part of the key. The immob transponder chip is separate to the remote circuit board so doesn't draw any power from the battery in the fob

Also a 2009 Superb doesn't have an immob symbol neither. It's comes up with the message "SAFE" on the dash when an unprogrammed key or a key with a faulty transponder turns the ignition on. This is the same with all equivalent year VAG as they use a pre-coded Component Security key system.

oh & generally with VAG if the immob hasn't been deactivated with the key the car will start & run for a couple of seconds then it dies. I've programmed a hell of a lot of VAG keys & this has been the case every time

What do you mean by if the immob hasn't been deactivated? Once the key is in the ignition the receiver should pick up the immob chip and deactivate the immob automatically shouldn't it?

what i'm saying is that if there's a key/immob problem the car will still start & run but only for a couple of seconds then it dies. In which case the immob hasn't been deactivated(turned off)

Also as i said in a previous comment your car doesn't have an immob light/symbol on the dash like older VAG. If the keys were faulty then you would get a message on the dash saying "SAFE"

So if you can't see "SAFE" anywhere on your dash clocks display then it isn't going to be a key issue

This is the old style immob symbol which is used for vehicles that don't use the newer Component Security system. The newer CS system is what your car will use & instead of having this key in car symbol it displays "SAFE" on the MFD when there's a key/immob issue

I will need to double check when I have time but I don't think it says safe on the clocks

if it doesn't say it then it's not a key/immob issue. The "SAFE" message is dsiplayed in the centre of the MF where the time, mileage etc is displayed

That's basically where I was going with it, the car and the key aren't chatting properly and it doesn't take that long to happen in some cases, when I bought my B6 the dealer had to program the keys before I left with it as there was an issue and it'd only been sat on the forecourt for a couple of months.

Again, as i've already said in previous posts it's NOT a key issue. If the key & car weren't chatting properly it would say "SAFE" on the dashboard. The OP says he's sure it doesn't say "SAFE" so therefore the key side of things is fine. People are saying it could be a key issue & i'm trying to get across that it's not because it doesn't say "SAFE" on his MFD

You can't miss is if it says "SAFE" because it's right in front of your eyes where the mileage/time etc is on the MFD, it stands out like a sore thumb.

The problem is something else

In case anybody missed it there's no "SAFE" "SAFE" "SAFE" "SAFE" on his MFD so it is NOT a key problem! lol!

Also if it was a key issue it would store a fault. "start blocked by immob" etc

Ah, got ya,

Well without a proper fault read it's all guess work really, I know crank and cam sensors can shut a car down in this way but again without a read we'll never know,

The only other thing I can think of possibly is someone put the wrong fuel in it.

I will need to double check when I have time but I don't think it says safe on the clocks

Did you do a full scan or just the ECU? if you just did the ECU i suggest you do a full scan

No worries ;) i do car keys as part of my business, just so you know where i get my info about "SAFE" from

Did a full scan and reset all codes no immob codes came back so I'm pretty sure it aint the immob it just has the same symptom of an immob kicking in. Only fault that don't clear is rear abs sensor and the oil sensor for sump.

Did you read address 17-Instruments?

This would log a fault caused by communication problems between the ECU and cluster (dash insert).

I read all codes and it threw up a **** load tbh I'd need to double check but there was no codes that stood out to me that would prevent the car running.

I've been told dsg boxes are a nightmare if they go wrong can stop the car from running but I can't see y?

different car but my dads M5 kept having starting problems which was related to autobox. The ECU kept thinking it was in gear so wouldn't allow it to start! Or so BMW kept telling him. He bought it brand new, fully loaded, had it 6 months & half of that it spent at BMW so he got shut & settled for a 530d! lol

  • 5 months later...

My girlfriend has the same problem. Did you solve this?

Does it say "SAFE" on the dash where mileage is displayed?
