New 17" rims to replace standard vrs wheels.

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just wondered if anyone had gone for a set of aftermarket 17" rims to replace their standard 17" zeniths with?  I understand most people would up size to 18" but for different reasons i wanted to stick with 17's.

I was looking at some team dynamic imolas in graphite.  I wasn't sure if they would look silly being only 17s although my standard wheels look alright to me.

I want to use my current wheels for winter wheels, they also have two good tyres so this way i can get new wheels :) and only two tyres, and have my originals for a full winter set.

Not sure how i came to have 17s as the car had the jumbo pack when i purchased it.  I think a customer before me must have done a swap on the forecourt with a salesman in order to secure a sale.

Thanks all

vRSy has a set of Team Dynamics 1.2's in the for sale section

What are you looking to spend?

Those TD 1.2s are 5x100 James, unfortunately :(

Wrong fitment for mine though.

cheers

I thought the Octy was 5x100, obviously not, sorry guys.

Demon Tweeks have a lot of clearance wheels and they are heavily discounted, they can also offer tyres too, good luck with your search.

Around the £100 a corner there abouts.  Tyres being seperate to that figure obviously.

Octy Mk1 was 5x100, Octy2 is 5x112.

Only TD stuff I would consider is the Pro Race range.

Other aftermarket I'd consider would be BBS, Speedline and OZ. Not sure what you'll be able to get for £400 though; will be a case of scouring the classifieds on here and the other VAG forums.

Is the pro race stuff just not a bit lighter?

Lighter, whilst being stronger at the same time. The standard TD stuff isn't that well made, in my experience.

Also quite a few examples of the TD wheel used with the Octy2 LE buckling and being damaged by potholes (is that not the Imola?)

Seems like i am not the only one who has wondered about this then!

Called wheelbase alloys to ask about the choices and i have the following in stock available

Any more suggestions?

7.5 x 17 ET45 Imolas graphite

7.5 x 17 ET37 Imolas graphite (no writing around the rim)

7 x 17 ET45 Pro Race 1.2 with a pcd of 5x114 but they said they supply some different bolts to sort this out?  These wheels work out 90 quid more all in.

What would you choose?  bit worried about the wrong pcd on the pro race wheels.

Bolts for 5x114 will be the 'wobble' type, as you're talking about a 2mm difference per bolt. I'd probably be a little bit wary as well, especially as Pro Race 1.2/1.3 are available in 5x112. Maybe try a different supplier?

Don't know how well made, or how heavy the Imolas are so won't comment further on those.

I will give it some thought but you are right.  For that kind of money i at least want ones that are the correct fit.

Good shout, pro race 1.2 in gloss black are actually cheaper on there too.

7" offset choice is 38 or 45 Believe 38 may look better?  is this correct

or i can get 7.5" in 25 , 30 ,37 , 45

38 is too low offset wise. Go for 45.

If you can go for ProRace, do it. They'll be better made, stronger and lighter.

you reckon i will still be ok with my original wheel bolts and locking nut?  I know sometimes they supply longer bolts, well they did the last time i bougtht a set of aftermarket wheels some 13 years ago.

I have different bolts for my Speedlines - slightly longer and a different set of longer locking wheel bolts too.

I would do this for peace of mind if nothing else - but Demon Tweeks would certainly be able to advise on this.

I have replied to your post on my other 17s thread.

I seem to remember someone selling a set of 5x114s a while back as they would not fit even with wobble bolts (bolt holes too tight apparently).  If you are buying new definitely get the correct 5x112 fitment.

You will probably need different bolts as the shoulder profile is different.  (I got a set thrown in from Rimstock)
