Yeti'ing in France

Featured Replies

Just booked Le Shuttle for the 18th of October, and our first 3 nights in a hotel on the Baie De Somme, which just happens to coincide with a steam weekend on the Chemin de Fer de la Baie de Somme!!

SWMBO now been told and hasn't complained too much. :whew:

Then off further west around Carnac and Vannes, then to friends in Derval.

P'raps that's that's why madam hasn't complained too much!

Very expensive ferry route you have chosen.  I would always go Dover to Dunkirk, stupidly cheap fares.

Why would I want to go to Dunkirk when I'm going to Brittany?

And why should I spend a couple of hours on and off a boat when I can drive onto a train and drive off and be well on my way in less than an hour?

Money isn't everything, you know?

From my point of view, whenever travelling from / to Kent(family near Canterbury), prefer the ferry, I find the shuttle 'lumpy' and nothing to watch, but I hate that crossing, its a 10 hour drive to my home in Finistere from Calais, 10.5 from Dunquerque, a real killer!

Thankfully, Tony, we are all different. I just take a book to read.

I don't like boats, unless they are 6' 10" wide and about 68' long and potter along canals!

And "lumpy" water turns me green.

  :(

as you say takes all sorts!, but i still hate the drag across to finistere!

Tony, I'll give you a shout nearer the time as to where we are staying in the Vannes, Carnac area.

Agreed, it's not just price. Value is important.

St Malo for us, for south-western France. No M25, no Paris/Rouen bottlenecks, let the ferry do the driving, on site by tea-time.

We had a great crossing from Portsmouth to Caen. After driving from Staffordshire to Portsmouth it was nice to have a sleep before the long slog down through France to the Vendee.

I know it is only 190 and 240 miles but it just makes for a more relaxed journey.

And we enjoyed it .
