i have visited quite a few Skoda forums, before i decided to follow just this one. the reasons are mainly because i found that there are some people here, with interesting and helpful opinions, with good knowledge of the car, willing to help with info and troubleshooting. i have been proven correct. these people do exist around here and make this a very good forum.

 

however i have two friendly points to make:

 

1. i really don't like it that each topic is drifted. i strongly believe that members should open new topics for each conversation they want to start (i.e. fuel consumption is scattered all around the forum).

 

2. i am fed up with all the wanna-be-car-reviewers ... i mean there is facebook too. you want to play expert? just post your opinion on your wall.

"the Rapid is not comfortable enough" - yeah right.. like i thought i paid for an S class

"the Rapid has not top quality interior plastics" - oh really? thx for letting me know, coz i m blind and i thought i bought an A6

"the Rapid is not as hi tech as Octavia III" - noooooo... don't tell me....and i though that what SKoda wanted is to make ONE car with two names, both Rapid and Octavia.

"the Rapid is not Golf" - hmmmm...are you sure? maybe it's a disguished Golf???

"the Citigo is a better car" - sure, i got one in the trunk of my Rapid

"the tsi engine is not good enough below 1500rpm" - hmmmm...have you ever heard of downshifting? engine load maybe? knock? NO??? well then i understand if you wanna go WOT from 1000rpm. be my guest. btw, your pistons say "Thank you @%&@*"

 

i mean really?? no, i mean really???? really-really???? who compares apples to oranges in 2013?????

 

people compare cars of different categories?

 

those of us who bought Rapid and those that are thinking about buying one, we all have our reasons and i can state mine:

huge trunk, good interior spaces, well equipped, decent motors, good looks (this is a personal taste), low fuel consumption (given it's size and the engines available), low maintenance cost, decent handling, mechanical parts that have been used in previous cars-thus being reliable, VERY good price.

 

before deciding to buy the Rapid, i had a list of cars in my mind, from SUV's to luxury sedans. when i decided that i wanted to spent as little as possible and to get the more of a family car for my needs, i ended up deciding between Rapid and Aveo sedan (Aveo sedan along with Peugeot 301 are the only true competitors of Rapid, segment-wise). Rapid was my choice because of the looks of it.

 

what i want to say is that unless somebody has something usefull for us Rapid owners to say, please don't bother comparing this car to LaFerrari, KTM XBow, Aygo, Superb, E class, Kuga and the Apollo 11. compare it to similar cars, see this car at it's real dimension.

 

Closing this monologue, i want to say "Thank you" to those people that really add high value to this forum. You guys know who you are !

Sadly people are people, and on a car forum you will get discussion about cars, and comparisons of cars etc.  Kinda part of the territory.  Just because someone is not fuused about the Rapid does not mean you were stupid to buy one, each person has their own motoring needs and tastes.  Personally I would rather have a Rapid that the Citigo, but I NEED a small and very economical car for work reasons and the Rapid does not fit the bill.  I have opted for a top spec Citigo to make it as nice as possible while fitting the criteria I needed my new car to fill.

Did you not go through the same process though, and do exactly the same thing?

Everyone has a different opinion and different needs when it comes to a car. If it is working well for you and you made a good decision, then ignore the (perfectly valid) criticisms others make and enjoy it.

Just for reference, I like the rapid.  Looks great and is a nice, cheaper alternative family car to the Octavia.

I like the Spaceback, interior and exterior, BUT it doesn't have a suitable towing limit for me.

Octi is too big so I bought a Yeti.

What weight is your 460-4?  The Octy 2 TDi was only just heavy enough for our Ranger 510/4.

Several words (I'm a bit lazy to count them) for you: I agree with you and I really love my Rapid

And by the way, you find lots of that type of criticism in every review, whether they are about mobile phones, computers, etc etc etc...Before buying something sure I try to read  a few reviews of reference, but I don't believe in them so to speak. I just use them as super general guidelines. The more you read the better, cause different persons give different valued perspectives from the same product. The "average" of those collected opinions tends to the factual reality itself. But at the end is our opinion that matters, nothing more!
