Alternator workshop

Featured Replies

Had this car a week and its doing my head in.

Yesterday on my way home this flashed up along with batt light then went off again. It happened a few times when i would accelerate quite hard. Thought the belt must be slipping. But within 2 miles the batt light was staying on.

Its a 2.5 v6 diesel so its a whole stripping match to get at the front. Has anyone else ever had to do this? I dont know whether to start into it myself or just get it done and timing belt at same time.

The day before a work mate asked me for a jump start, from what ive read it could be the cause of this. Though i cant see how it could be so fragile, ive jumped plenty of cars in my time and this is a new one for me.

The irony is id bought the car with the intention of tidying it and selling it on. I shouldnt have used it for myself

I have the same issue last month and also with the Starter Motor jammed. Done both last month.

Its the Alternnator culprit. Its Valeo 120Amps. Its Carbons & Slip rings may worn out. Its replaceable.

Tedious job to open the alternator. Remove right side wheel. Fander lining. Jumping rods. Right engine mounting. Then you may access to alternator.

Also remove the ac fan & alternator belt, but first loose the alternator bolts.

Just got car back last night. Bearing gone on rotor. Fair enough, today fitted a coolant sensor which was my first issue with car. Plugged it in to clear fault.

Its now showing p2102 and p2108. Im sick of this car. Ive only done 300 miles and its the third problem
