Doors so hard to close after crash repair

Featured Replies

I just got my car back from Skoda body shop. 2 new doors put on. But they are now so hard to close. Can the lock mechanism or door be adjusted?

They also fitted the seal round the rear window so badly there is a gap which causes a whistle at high speeds grrr. Too much hassle to take back.

What tools do they use to put rubber seals in around the small rear window of the back door. Just needs pushing up

The doors can be adjusted, but if you're not happy with the repair you should take it back and get it sorted out - you shouldn't have to put up with poor workmanship, and whoever did the work shouldn't be able to get away with it either.

I agree, take it back, without doubt. They should be made to do the work to an acceptable standard, that's what they were paid for!

Thanks it is just hassle,

where do the doors adjust please is it the lock end or the hinge?

Don't touch them. If you can't improve matters and need to take it back, they will blame you.

You are right I will hang on. But three weeks they had the car grrrrrrr !!!! Muppets

Ask for a free service, should not have left the bodyshop in that state. Really shoddy, ask to speak to the bodyshop manager and tell him how upset you are. I have had rubbish repairs from the likes of Ford and Mazda, there all the same!

If you feel you have to, then adjust alignment with the hinges and closing with the lock striker on the body. Don't touch the lock itself.

For safety, use a felt pen to mark original positions before moving. Move only one thing at a time and have a real good think about why it is or isn't working. Remember, if it were easy the body shop would have done it right first time.

Yes that's my concern is the crash has bent more metal, or the body shop are complete f wits. The nuts are well worn on the hinges with white paint missing. So I guess they have tried. This is a Skoda body shop so shame as I went to them for that reason. I have complained to body shop manager today. Idiots

Hi pdmc, you really ain't having much luck, first the refusal to replace the crash damaged wheel (insurance co) and now a shoddy repair. It should not be released back to you until it has been completely tested all gaps/rubbers and alignment etc should be right!

The only option you have is to take it back and start to make some polite noise.

They have charged a lot of money to the other parties insurance company for this, so do not attempt any sort of home repair/realignment, they need to have it back and get it right, not you.

Do not accept any less.

I'm a fair person but when people take the mick or provide sub standard work for which they have charged a commercial rate for, they would soon know in a very polite but stern way :) I do my job properly and so should they.

The next step is my insurance company but I hope I don't have to as they were the ones to say no to the wheel.

I might get all wheels refurbed as doing one will look a bit odd and will annoy me.
