Fabia Hatch 2.0 Performance Figures Rqd

I'm not talking heavy traffic, I'm talking traffic at 12 midnight.

Still think if you have to 'swerve' in traffic to 'fly by' then you're probably being quite a danger to yourself and others. But it's your call, I'm safe in another country :D

And to add some fuel to the fire (sorry) your last reply stated all the mods you've done to your car. But wasn't this originally about the stock cars? and how they compare. I'm sure a heavily modded vRS would speed past your 2.0l

OT, but Mil did you used to be called Fabia2.0RS? i dont seem to remember you from long ago but you have nearly 900 posts?

My ride isn't heavily modded enough to be quoted as one. I have lowered suspension and strut brace and a panel filter. When you mod a vRS, especially with a remap, it will definitely see me off. We're talking pretty much power here, of which both mine and the vRS are alike.

And in any case with stock suspension, the vRS still would struggle, because the 2.0 on 15" rims has a lower centre of gravity.

:D Yeah that's me. I asked ColinD to change it to Mil (name is Milton)and he did ever so generously

And yeah, I joined in January....

Whoa...almost 900posts...I haven't been paying attention to that, I climbed up pretty quick!

I'm sorry but I'm  at this thread and some of the remarkably dubious reasoning/logic being used on it.

Anyway, carry on..........................

I'm sure a vRS would struggle in Dubai simply from the heat too.

Awww gee thanks dude

The turbo would probably explode

Actually no not true after all there are a couple of Octi vRSs around.

Wasn't the Mini/vRS thing on a track? And doesnt the Mini handle better?

Yeah it does. But your talking stock there. Even then with the vRS lowered, the rims still make it higher than the Cooper which has 15", and the fact that the Cooper has a lower roof.

That's my point. For the Fab to win on a track points to it being significantly quicker as it's exit speeds are so much lower.

Also you could probably accelerate in 5th quicker in a vRS than you can in 3rd in a 2.0 model - he said 50 - 75 in 7.5 seconds in 3rd' date=' well a vRS can do 50-70 in 6.4 seconds in 5th.

Ok pbirkett, I have some stunning news for you.

First off, regarding this quote of yours, I have just tested my car again, twice, and I will be recording a video just to prove this to you....my car, believe it or not (I don't) does 50mph - 70mph in 5.6 seconds, and 50mph - 75mph in 7 seconds flat, all in third gear.

Like I said, I will record this just to show you I wasn't bullsh***ing when I said my car is fast.

Nice 'debate' chaps !!! Maybe I can offer my services from the United Nations ? :-

1) The 2.0 petrol Fabia is a lot better on the road than the figures would lead you to believe - EXACTLY in the same way that the VRS is.

2) The vRS is definitely faster in acceleration, even allowing for different gear ratios, but not stupidly so, if you were to have both cars in the ideal gear at the time.

3) The 2.0 petrol Fabia is very under-rated - its not new tech by any means, but it works in the Fabia shell, trust me.

Finally, I said I bought one for my parents, and took it the 250 miles to them. At the risk of getting some people's backs up about speeding... this was a one off and I slowed right back down again immediately, here goes:-

- An Audi A4 130 TDi (2003) comes up behind me on the M6 toll road when I'm doing a sensible speed in the outside lane, while passing one car (on an otherwise deserted road)

- The Audi welds itself to my back bumper and flashes lights (I'm doing an indicated 80mph, true 75'ish)

- I see red, and put it into 4th gear, pass other car and keep accelerating.

- I then move over and keep accelerating

- At an indicated speed over the 'official' top speed, I call myself 'extremely stupid', and slow down, then brake back to normal speeds

- The Audi could not get ahead of the Fabia until I braked, and he was trying.

My point - well the Audi is obviously heavier than the vRS Fabia with the same engine. As the guy was driving aggressively in the first place, and kept accelerating hard, we'll assume he could also use his gearbox. So with speedo error , there was nothing in it from 75 to a true 115, with acceleration to come.

Knock the extra weight of the Audi off and a vRS would probably have been 5-10 car lengths ahead at stupid speeds. As I said - quicker, but by how much ?!

I now drive an old man's (German) car and promise to set my cruise control at 70mph on every motoway trip

Hope it wasn't new if you were ragging it like that! Parents won't be happy! ;)

not wanting to insult you mil but your times and figures don't mean **** with your smaller wheels and lower profile tyres as your speedo is out anyway.

whilst your speedo says your doing say 100kph your actually going to be doing maybe 10kph less depending on how much smaller your overall wheel diameter is now.

unless you've had your speedo adjusted of course and if so please ignore this post

Benjie, that's absolute boll***s (like all English people say). Our radars flash at 120kmph dead on, and I've been caught at those speeds, but not just below at 118 or 119kmph. I've even seen the pics at the station when I go to pay my fines, with the indicated speed. And I know the times and speeds I was caught at.

My speedometer is NOT off in anyway.

15" is standard on a 2.0, so are 195/50s, so I don't see how the speedo could be off from the factory in anyway, especially by 10 damn kilometers per hour. That's an absolutely ridiculous call and one of the stupidest statements I've ever heard.

I've recorded a nice video for you guys. It'll be up as soon as soon as it is edited.

As of tonight's intensive testing (and I mean intense), here are the average times I've clocked.

Pbirkett, I take a stand back. I tested the 70mph to 110kmph run, I don't know why I said it's a little above 10 seconds, coz that's absolutely nuts. I hit that run 20 seconds flat.

000-100kmph (0-62mph) = 8.5 seconds

040-060kmph (64-96mph) in 2nd gear = 4.1 seconds

080-112kmph (50-70mph) in 3rd gear = 5.6 seconds

120-176kmph (70-110mph) in 4th gear = 20 seconds

Even though the 0-62mph vRS run may be faster than a 2.0, judging by the figures I've read on article about remapped Fabia vRS cars, the rest of the times (averaging 6.4 seconds for a 50-70mph run), according to the tests I conducted tonight, prove that the 2.0 has faster acceleration times from 40-60 and up.

I've figured out why Skoda quotes 0-100kmph times of the vRS as 0.3 seconds faster than a 2.0...by the time the 2.0 hits 60kmph per hour for a gear change, the vRS will already have been in 2nd and hitting it hard.

AS Fabpreza has said, the 2.0 is an underrated car. He's driven it, so he knows. It's too bad Mike Austin don't seem to 'ride' his car, it would have been nice to have a third opinion.

Like I said, I've recorded a nice video you should all enjoy. You'll know when it's up.

I have done 3,500 miles in my new 2.0 now, so it would be loose enough to time the acceleration - if I wanted to. But I need to find somewhere quiet to do it. It is bad enough feeling like a prat, let alone looking like one.

One of the deceptive things about the 2.0 is that it is so smooth. Speed and acceleration are hardly noticed. It means I get home quiet and relaxed. I'm less hyped-up and less likely to argue the toss over performance.

And to make it even more boring for you guys, I tend to drive with the mpg gauge these days. I like to get 40mpg on my way home by frugal driving. I know you diesel-heads get more mpg than this, but my 2.0 is so smooth and so laid back that it just doesn't bother me.

Calm down guys.

Mil, as previously discussed on another thread, your speedo is not 100% accurate. HGV tacographs are pretty much the most accurate measuring devices (cost allowing of course) found in vehicles, and they're within 5%, your speedo's coming no where near one of these for accuracy.

Plus your original point was "And after 75mph my car will just pull straight to about 110mph on 4th (that takes about 10 seconds)"

Which you've now admitted is not true. I don't think anyone's saying the 2.0 is a bad car, just that the 10 second claim was a little er... low.

Will both of you grow up and get a life! You are both starting to sound about as interesting as that guy Eugene in big brother.

My dad easily used to get 40 mpg out of his 2.0 Golf GTI... proving that small engines dont always mean better economy.

Anyway, wheres this video of the mighty 2.0 litre mil? ;)

It's being edited on I-movie.

Why you mocking me man :D ? You underestimate my car, I try to convince you otherwise and you refuse to believe. That's why I did the movie, for you guys. It's gonna be called the '50-70mph' run, which while you watch, you will time it yourselves as soon as my speedo hits 80kmph and moves onto 112kmph, which is 50mph to 70mph.

I might need your help on how to get a link up though and if i need to compress the movie or something.

Mate, if you can compress it down to under a megabyte, I'm happy to host it for you :D

Chris

How do I compress it down to 1 megabyte?? I ain't no computer whiz, sorry :o

If you have the latest version of iMovie, go to File - Share, click on the QuickTime tab and choose different settings for "Compress movie for ". It should tell you an estimated size for each except Expert Settings.

Choose the one nearest 1MB and click Share to save it. If it's a long movie or you want better quality you will have to go to Expert settings and set the compression yourself. That's a long tutorial which I won't go into here.
