But even GPS isn't 100% accurate ;)

Chris

Nah but it's very close and not affected by wheel/tyre diameters. ;):D

Cheers

Many people have worked out speedo error on their cars from their GPS devices and also from the gear ratios of the car' date=' so know the actual speedo error. This varies from car to car and make to make. At 145mph indicated, my Octavia was doing a true 134.

I'm a 2.0 fan as you know, but let's be honest here - the true, level road, no wind maximum speed is no more than 125mph. Downhill or with a favourable wind maybe, but a 2.0 is not a 137mph (or 132/3mph) car. Sorry.

It's good fun all the same.

I'm glad you're a 2.0 fan, and I take nothing personal from your comment, except the fact that everyone seems to think I'm b***shi**ing in here. My speedo cannot be off by 10%. Reason why?

Because the damned radars we have here flash at 120kmph and NOT before, of which I've had my car at 119kmph and not get flashed, and I've driven at 122kmph and got flashed.

My speedo has read 220kmph and it reaches that mark easily, and not only that, it FELT like that speed. Once it hits 220kmph it just stops trying for more. My tacho reads at 5,800rpm at that speed. I KNOW what 220kmph feels like, I know what 260kmph feels like as well, and I know what 200kmph feels like.

I'm not saying there is absolutely no speedo error in my car, but as far as I know, the error is very tiny, simply because the programming of the radars here tell me so.

And like Chris has said, GPS is not perfect either. I mean for crying outloud, we had the GPS on in my dad's beemer and the programmed lady told us to take a bloody left to one particular destination we were headed when we knew we had to take a right!

If this be the case you will NEVER know the true speed you're doing because you have no accurately reliable source.

Whatever. I'm tired of trying to put my point across. If I ever decide to floor it on the highway I'll try and get a picture.

Now I know this is bull****. 122kmph? 122,000 mph?

Now I know[/i'] this is bull****. 122kmph? 122,000 mph?

No dumba** 122 kilometers per hour

If I drive into radar with 100km/h on clock I get 99km/h so I think my speedo is pretty accurate at the moment (km/h is more accurate unit than mph anyway). Running 205/45/16 tires, dunno if tire make or rims make also a little bit of difference, also how worn the tires are. With winter tires 175/65/14 I get 97km/h.. 195/50/15 however would be theoritically something like 95km/h, on polo at least, don't know about fabia but I've understood they share pretty much same techonology and use same tire sizes.. anyway, that would mean -5km/h error which would imo make noticable difference.. not claiming anything though just wondering..

Mil I understand your point, I have a picture of my ex car a Mondeo reading 143 mph on the speedo (2.0 TDCi) however we all know it isnt accurate, and I 110% believe you will get a picture of it doing that, but it isnt...

Your comment about feeling the speed your going is interesting but I cant tell the difference between 120-130 mph to be honest and im not sure many people can at that speed, it's almost impossible to say on the Mondeo that it is 143 mph because it felt like that ( I am aware you didnt exactly say that but you get my generalised comment  )

Anyway, taking nothing away from the 2.0 Ltr, im sure it is fantastic.

Lets be honest it's not about the speed people drive but the exitment driving brings, and lets be fair who cares which is faster? it's not a penis extension just because you have a car which is 1 second faster here or there...

And the most important thing about driving is BE SAFE, it's not a game, people do die, especially at the speeds people we are talking about.

when my speedo was reading 145 my gps was reading 139

You're hilarious man!!!!!

Anyways, Cliveski, there's all the info you need

Anyway bottom line is that the 2.0 8v is very capable engine, and quite cheap too.. at least here in finland when compared to diesel engines.. You can stuff it with luxury equipment like sport seats cruise control etc. and get a very nice ride for modest price. I'm still considering it as an option if I opt for fabia combi though I believe I will go tdi route as I can use the powerbox (still on order) from my current car with it.

Btw, I used to own a renault megane couple of years ago with very similar spec engine and weight (2.0 8v 115bhp 168nm 1160kg factory claim) and it was quite a capable car (not sub 9sec but certainly 9-10sec car). I raced one golf gti that had the same 2.0 8v engine you have in fabia and we were pretty much even until the road got twisty and the other guy ran out of nerve and left behind.. Especially the very usable torque band made it nice to drive although not as strong as a diesel, I even think todays turbodiesel torque is sometimes a bit too much for a fwd car, I can easily spin the wheels with my car even though its only merely 75bhp (factory claim other results yet proven). Waiting for winter for some fun (can easily go sideways even with a fwd car with no real power) :D

If you can post that video I'd still be happy to see it.

The 2.0 may not be a vRS but it is beautiful in it's own league. I've got sports seats, it came with the car, with a sporty coloured interior too. I don't have the cruise control but the kit it came with is great and I payed a total of about GBP 5000 worth for the car here, which is nothing for a 2.0.

The video is gonna take longer than I thought. I want it to be nice and I want you guys to see me, the friend and Skoda owner on this website who you've never and most likely will never meet but you'll know :) Believe me it's turning out really well.

Anyways, hopefully tonight I should be posting up pics of my ICE and my super cool strut brace :D

Will keep you posted.

Since Mil wont post his vid :) I guess I will have to.

Firstly my disclaimer: I did this on my private track, I took first gear very easy as to not nacker the clutch, the car only has 6,300 miles on the clock (much faster now it has 17k), the road was wet therefore acceleration was hindered :o, last but not least it didnt have any mods bar cupra intake, green filter and jabba remap (Just done about 3 hours before :D).

Ok disclaimer over....http://www.foundrometers.co.uk/pics/fabia/0-90.MOV (4.4Mb, no sound).

I WILL POST IT!!!

Just making it pretty for all you guys :D

Do you think you could make the file of regular format so I can see it? I can't watch it, it won't play.

It's a Quicktime movie :D

Where did you fit the camera - and what camera was it? It seems very stable. I was wondering about having a go myself - but with the front wheels up on jacks ;)

Not sure if it was on here, or Scoobynet, but someone showed how to knock up a camera mount (for

Hey Hellfire, how many bhp is your ride? That's quick man. NICE!!!!!!!!

Quite a slick gearbox the fabia has, the speed rise looks almost gapless, like a dsg gearbox.. or then you must have some very fast robot-like hands :) Usually you can see the shift points in a video but without sound it's hard to tell this time. Anyway looks very fast, makes me think if I should ditch the combi plans and change my polo for a vRS :D

According to Jabba 191.4 bhp, but I am yet to see how accurate that is on an indipendant RR.

In comparison to how the car drives now, it's actually pretty slow :o

It was actually a digital camera, not a camcorder hence no sound which could only do 15 second clips. I mounted it on the steering colum behind the steering wheel using some very basic but just as effective bluetac.

When I test drove the VRS, I found the 6-speed gearbox noticeably less slick than the 2.0's 5-speed gearbox. So hellfire seems to be a well-shifty character :)

The two pikey mods really seem to help in hot weather and when my green filter is clean it also seems smoother.

I believe that it could do nearer 100 now, whereas on the video it goes to 90 (partially because of nannying 1st gear)...

How about another video, with sound :)
