Anybody with an Alpine ipod ready head unit ?

Featured Replies

Just wondering if anybody has one and what their opinions are of the ipod integration?

My 9835 is I-pod compatible, but I haven't got the I-pod adapter, mainly because I don't have an I-pod. I run my MP3 player through the auxillary in which works fine, the advantage i can see of the I-Pod system is that you can change tracks on the head unit itself and it gives the track info.

Lots of people on here have I-Pod ready head units, someone must have an adapter.

I have just had an Alpine head unit and i-pod interface installed in the golf, its great charges the i-pod whilst in use so no flat battery when you get to your destination and want to use the ipod free.

Actual operation of ipod from headunit is good - notbriliant, sometimes it can get confused if you have it on whole libary random and then switch off the head unit it then just sticks to the album that was playing when you restart - no big deal but can be a pain. But overall a very handy bit of kit - no more storing loads of CD's or ripping MP3 discs - your entire music collecion available at the press of a couple of buttons.

I was interested in how good a job the integration was between the head unit and ipod for controls and if there were any little niggles so thats handy to know although it doesnt sound like a major thing.

Which head unit did you go for?

No overall I would say the integration is very good,I have found that if you select a different source before switching off that is does not glitch.

I've gone for the CDA-9855R with the glide touch bar - I'm still trying to decide if this is a good thing or not - it is quite easy an you can feel where you are on the bar but I can't help feeling that selection from the main rotary controller would be more simple.

But as for sound quality and features I can't complain at all

Thats the same HU I was looking at  Not sure about all the silver although I guess it would match with the vRS gear **** (edit. it would appear the word 'k n o b' is ofensive?) I thought about maybe getting a black surround to replace the silver so it fits in a bit more with the dash.

Any chance of a pic to see how it looks? :D

Sorry no pics for the time being -- my camera is on loan to a friend, but will post some as soon as I can, need to get some of the golf up as well

Just ordered the 9853R today arriving tommorrow. Went for that one mainly because i liked the black look against the silver. (have had silver pioneer unit in mine for 5 months and ive had enough....looks too out of place!)

Just ordered the 9853R

I got mine off caraudiodirect.co.uk (top service so far)

but thats ipod ready

when you say ipod ready, do that mean it comes with all the cables? and cradle to hold the ipod or is that extra?

I'm not sure to replace my standard HU, or keep it and get the denson ICE-link, Did u look at the denson one?

It doesnt come with the cradle etc. but it has the ability within the unit to process/manage all the files (not all that common If memorey serves)

I have recieved it today and can confirm its a fantastic looking bit of kit.

I had a look at the denson one indeed but the features on the alpine one out weighed the denson for what i needed.

PLUS the alpine can manage/control up to 8 amps at the same time. QUALITY

8 AMPS! :eek::eek::eek:

So how much extra is all the other bits to use the ipod with this HU?

When I get the Alpine HU (after my fabia vRS gets delivered  ) I'm going to install it so that the ipod sits in the glovebox. I'm really not that bothered about showing off that I have an ipod in the car as I don't really like the look of brackets/holders/cradles mounted on the dashboard.

Have installed the 9853R at the weekend and it really is the best thing i have ever heard. Really quality use of features, looks and feels so solid and well made.

Really IS worth the money!!!!

Are you able to post a pic so I can see how it looks? Can you change the buttons to display green and doesit fit in with the rest of the cars illumination?

Ill try and post a pic later tonight. You can select from 512 colours for the units display so green will be in there.

Sits just right in the dash looks booootiful!

Can't complain about the Alpine gear at all - absolutely top notch gear.
