Fitting aftermarket reversing sensors.

Featured Replies

Im wanting to fit reverse parking sensors to my octy vrs, looking on ebay there are kits available for £20,has anybody fitted aftermarket sensors? will it cause a issue with my cars canbus wiring? as some come in black & my car is blue can i paint the sensors or will this cause them not to work correctly?

Fit a Cobra Parkmaster kit. It's what Skoda use as the accessory kit anyhow, they work brilliantly and are a doddle to fit.

Evening Mikey,i am gonna do this to mine too and Chris (vrserious) has said he will give me a hand fitting mine as he has done his, maybe we could sort summat together :)

Do you know what kit he fitted? & what kit are you fitting? the kit Tech1e recomended looks good,i can get a set painted to the correct colour & delivered for £100.

I've fitted one of those £14.50 eBay kits fitted to my octy, works perfect and looks great. No interference with any of the cars systems just wired straight to the reverse light. Had them on for a year now and still perfect, I brought some £12 race blue spray from the dealer to get a perfect colour match.

This ^^^^

Alternatively I have an OE Škoda Superb kit that I never got round to fitting to SWMBO’s Golf, the OE plug would no doubt need to be cut off but it should be no different to fitting the Cobra kit (I have done a couple of sets of Cobra’s and they are a piece of cake to fit)

Whatever you go for make sure you get the flush fit ones, they are a little dearer but they will look factory fitted once they are painted.

Dunno mate, the kit he fitted was only about £20 and looked bang on just had to get the sensors painted in race blue which my mate will do for almost nowt :)

Fitted my ebay set today, all went well, fitted no problems, total cost was just under £30 inc sensors & getting some paint made up.

Tidy job Mikey :-)

I got mine from Parkingsensors dot co dot uk.  They offer various colours and those for my Race Blue VRS turned out to be just a shade darker than the car.  I'm happy with that, they look OK.  The kit comes with a hole saw.

Fitting was easy, just be sure to take your time with measuring up.  For correct positioning, have a browse round the net, and on here, to establish the exact position for the holes.  Use masking tape for marking out and simply go gently.  Access to the rear for wiring means taking out the rear plastic trim on the boot where you will see a grommet for feeding the wires through.  No need to take off the bumpers.

For wiring up sensors, or parking cameras, electricians cable access rods are helpful, see: <http://www.amazon.co.uk/CABLE-ACCESS-3-3M-electricians-wiring/dp/B0016SJ3N0>

It means that you can easily get wires along narrow gaps, or across the roof lining from rear to front, or across the dash from fusebox to top locker if you're putting in a satnav.

Cheers

Clive,i found it was easier to remove the bumper on my octy as on the inside of the bumper are 4 circles where skoda fit the sensors so i used these as a ref point to drill & i tied up the sensor wiring inside the rear bumper for a better job,I had some paint made up & painted them myself & the match is spot on.The ebay kit i used came with a hole cutter & all the bits you need.

No worries mate, will get one of my mates to order me some :)

These are the ones I've ordered for you Steve http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PARKING-REVERSING-REAR-SENSORS-KIT-FOUR-SENSOR-KIT-/230405599727?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item35a53e71ef, had these fitted on my mk2 vrs for two odd years and four years on my mk1 with no problems!

Clive, I'm happy to help you as well as Steve, your just a little far away from us (York) I can tell you how I will be doing it, if you need a hand.

Chris.

See, this is why I like this site   nice one mikey

Sounds like a good idea and a good excuse too talk cars lol

Thanks Chris, let me know how much i owe you and we can go from there :)

Thanks, Chris.  No help needed though and they work just fine.

Fact is, I'd rather do wiring these days than grovel about underneath doing mechanicals.  Just getting too old :giggle:

Doing the reversing camera was fun, as I managed to do it without drilling any metalwork.  Had to thread wires down the tailgate for power and video which meant using both legs of  the tailgate,  obviously there's  not  much space inside the  rear  screen  frames :whew:

Cheers
