Remapping a 1.4tdi?

Featured Replies

Has anyone ever had a 1.4tdi 3pot re-mapped?

If so, what difference did it make, if any?

Getting 50+mpg now and the 148ft lbs of torque means it goes well if you get the gearing right, but a little extra go would be nice.

Anyone had any experience?

I used to drive a Mk I 1.4 TDI, which I assume has more or less the same engine as you have, and I was quite happy with it the way it was. Over my 3 years of driving I was struggling to make it anything less than 60mpg, see my record here, and IMHO the gearing was just right...not so in my current Mk II  1.2 TDI.

storm, yes it's possible to do and there are people on here who have had it carried out. Is yours the 70 or 80ps engine? I had the 80ps and it flew! Remember that Audi ran this engine at both 90ps and 100ps. It's generally accepted that you should not go over 120ps for road use as it is about the limit for reliable everyday use. Some firms can take it to 130ps but there have been some problems long term with that I believe. I reckon the 100ps option is the best but wait around and someone who has had this done will come and tell you all about it. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies guys. Yes I agree it can get over 60mpg, a long way in fact, but the last part of my commute is through milton keynes and the roundabouts kill the mpg down to 50ish.

Estate man, it is the 80ps. I agree it is quick, especially off the blocks if you time the gear change just right between 1st and 2nd. It feels as if it lurches forward. Were the engines in the audi's exactly the same, and with the same clutches ect?

Hi storm, yes the engines were just about identical as far as I know with the same clutch. Obviously there is no Dual Mass Flywheel (DMF) so this may be a consideration when choosing power output. But although I've teched for many years, I'm no 'eggspurt' on tuning these engines. Would recommend you do some further research.

My friend has the 1.4tdi estate wit 75hp and remapped to 90hp (audi came out with this map on the A2 I believe)

Notice more torque for better driving experience, and yes you can double HP values on these.
