Servicing advice

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 2008 CR VRS diesel.

It's got 80K on the clock, last service was 70K

IIRC it has the DQ1 which is varible service indicator but I have been having it serviced every 10K regardless. The oil is filthy after that mileage and I think it's worthwhile.

I'm also going to get the cambelt done, I can't find any history of a belt change previously.

I also can't find any history of a lambada sensor change.

Not had brake fluid for 3 years so probably wothwhile too.

A/C works but isn't very powerful. sypmtom of requiruing a regass or something more??

Any advice on the above? Prices, milage, cambelt tips etc.

Thanks

I'd have thought a cam belt would be worthwhile along withbthe brake fluid change you mentioned skoda charge 449 for the belt and water pump and 45 for the brake fluid change, air con on mine was 45 iirc at ATS. Hope this helps!

TBH I don't think you need any advice- you seem to have everything covered.

You have a diesel, the oil looks filthy after about 10 minutes.

What about the Lamabada sensor?

Is this on the exhaust? Never knowingly had one changed before.

Surely just being a sensor you would just change it when it fails, or does it get clogged/dirty??

Only change it if there is a problem with it.

The current VAG recommended cam belt change period is every 4 years, regardless of mileage.

Regular brake fluid change is cheap insurance on several levels. Brake fluid loves absorbing water, which greatly reduces its ability to do the job its there for. The cost of internal damage/rusting to the brake system,  ABS valve and such, could write off a car in a few years.

None of the skodas I have been in have had truely fridgid, north American style, A/C.  A recharge every couple of years, with a check for leaks, is part of the unwritten maintainence schedule.  (mustn't scare the punters).

Our Octavia 2.0 tdi PD is 4 years old, but only done 20,000. I’ve been quoted £349 for fitting the cam belt kit at a Skoda dealer, but looking for prices from independent garages.

I guess as long as they use genuine Skoda parts, there’ll be no problem? Have to say, seems a short life for a cam belt.
