Winter Wheels anyone?

Featured Replies

I'm still looking for 14" wheels..... when I get my Citigo (build week37).... It will have the 14" Apus wheels, which are normally shod with 175/65. Is this right.

So what's best for winter wheels 165/70 or 175/65?

Cheers in advance.

no good for us, we have 15 inch winter tyres! lol.. (we just swop them onthe OE wheels...) good for someone though!

for post above, use the same size tyre as on your OE wheels...

How do you get the tyres swapped?

Well, taken the plunge. Winter steelies purchased.

4x 14" 5J

VAG part No: 1S0 601 027 . £130 off fleabay. Slightly used, in excellent condition.

Now in the market for the important part - the rubber.

After 175/65

Michelin Pilot A4s, Contis ContiWinter TS830 (TS850 only available for 165/70), Goodyear Ultragrip 8.

Any recomendations or does anyone know of good deals.

I think I can get the Michelins for £57 a corner, fitted & balanced etc.

I think the winter tyre thing is a lot of hype in the UK, having had insider chats with a major tyre fitter chain. In europe where you get snow for 3-4 months without fail then fine, but we dont in the UK.

cold weather grip would just be improved by better rated tyres for the temp, eg. I had some tyres once that didnt warm until 16 degrees, and they were hopeless below that temp. But icey, snowey? I wount get enough use of them.

NB from my experience, the mpg suffers badly with winter tyres too.  - all year round.
