Power steering warning light

Featured Replies

Have searched the forum but the few posts I found never had a resolution.

My power steering warning light came on today, I'd been doing a lesson that involved a lot of parallel parking and turn in the road practice, nothing I haven't done before, but after the lesson had ended when I restarted the engine I found the steering slightly heavier than usual and then the light came on. I turned the engine off and restarted, no light and steering as normal.

I've done 3 hours more driving lessons since then and no further light coming on, do you think it's just the pump overheating on that lesson or should I be worried?

Cheers for any response.

Have you had a bit of belt slippage? or is the steering electric assist on the Fabia?

I am happy to scan with VCDS if you are anywhere near St Helens?

No belt slippage that I know of, everything has been fine up until that moment and been fine since. I know my colleague has had trouble with his Kia doing something similar and they said it was overheating. I'll see if it happens again and get it looked at if it does.

I'm on the Isle of Wight, we have a St Helens but I don't think it's your St Helens, thank you very much for the offer though, very kind of you :-)

Two St Helens! I am a lot further north than you are mate, hope you get it sorted.

Did you have a check of the fluid level?

george

Not yet George, forgot to add that this is on my Monte TDi, not the vRS, sorry. I needed to crack on with lessons today and it's now too dark and miserable to see, I'll check in the morning, I'll have time to find out where it is by then too !!

Sorry i was being silly, scrub that.

and not thinking, away to quote from the book did you read it?

"If the warning light after switching on the ignition or when driving or lights up continusly, a fault exists in the electrohhydraulic power steering,

The power steering operates with reduced steering or is completely without function."

"If the warning light goes out after starting the engine again and a short drive, it is not necessary to visit a specialist garage."

Not read it yet, wouldn't have been any the wiser really if I had, so, looks like it's a trip to the garage Monday then :-(

didn't it say "if it goes out after starting the engine again, no need to visit garage" ? maybe it just overheated..... (tyre pressure up properly? I know, I know, you'd be on top of that ;) )

Yep, I didn't read the last line before hitting reply last night, it was off the bottom of my page! I'll only go to garage if it happens again for a length of time.

And yeah, TP's fine, as you guessed ;-)

I don't have the issue but I live in Newton le Willows and my mum and my 8 year old son have season tickets for Saints :-)

I live in St Helens but must admit I don't go to watch the egg chasers  :giggle:  might be because I wasn't born and bred up here lol.

I am on the Bold side of St Helens so not far from Newton le Willows. If you need VCDS let me know.

I have family in st helens and haydock and most of us are rugby fans. It is a northerners sport mainly I suppose. Thank you very much for the vcds offer and I will bare it in mind should any problems arise.

Sorry, double post :-(
