Why rear discs?

Featured Replies

Simple question: Why do Skoda see fit to equip the Greenline Fabia with rear disc brakes? Is there some weight saving advantage over drums?

Yes!

Any idea how much heavier drums are?

I know my preference is for drums on the rear, and to be honest, unless a car is particularly heavy and really powerful, discs on the rear aren't necessary. Can of worms opened...........

Disc brakes are probably cheaper to manufacture & install, as well s being lighter.

Back in the "bad old days", properly working disc handbrakes were a problem, but that was then......

Probably got more to do with cars being fitted or having the option

of being fitted with ESP these days. Disc brakes are obviously better for auto

modulation done by the system than drum brakes would be.

New as in 'Type Approved' after the date that that came in.

Cars Type Approved after Feb 2011 need DRL's fitted as standard.

Cars Type Approved after Nov 2012 need TPMS fitted as standard.

Mk2 Fabias were Type Approved in 2007.
