Honda CRV - now with 2wd 1.6

I had a CRV as a loaner for a week while my Yeti was repaired.

It was too large.(for me.)

Had a much larger turning circle with lower geared steering.

Didn't handle as well,and rolled much more in corners.

On the other hand:-

The ride was more compliant.

The 2.2 Diesel was much smoother and quiet(You could forget it was a diesel.)

It would happily potter around at 30mph in top gear,while the Yeti would have to be in 4th.

I guess the 1.6 will be a bit slower,more economical and cheaper to run.

Would I have one ?

I can't abide the back end of the new CRV. In fact the whole car is bit too USA for my liking these days. Just about the only Eastern SUV I would consider at the moment is the handsome new Hyundai Sante Fe.

My 140 DSG would usually potter in fifth (out of six), unless a noticeable uphill :think:

The nearest equivalent CRV to my (on order) 2.0 TDi 110 SE Plus Yeti is the SE-T specification 1.6 i-dtec. The list price for this is £25,425.That's almost £6,000 more than the Yeti! Don't get me wrong, I'm currently driving a 2.2 diesel Accord and I've had two other Honda cars, so I do rate them. But I don't think that the CRV will be 6k better.

'Worth noting that the CRV's dimensions are:

Length 4570

Width including door mirrors 2095.2

Height including aerial 1685

 

Whereas the Yeti is

Length 4223

Width    1956 (including mirrors)

Height  1691 (not inc. aerial).

So the CRV is 35cm longer and 10cm wider than the Yeti. Will this make much difference in the interior and with driving dynamics? Mmm......

I am keeping mind the forthcoming Honda Urban SUV (smaller than current CRV) and a completely new Jazz which might just fit the bill.

Had a string of Honda's which were brilliant with excellent dealers which have formed my opinion.

 

Agree about the current Honda trend to over style the metalwork though, especially as the internal

headroom has shrunk a bit of late. No good being stylish if you can't fit in.

 

Just had another 2 more warranty issues with the Yeti and a bit disappointed with the overall

reliability/quality experience so far, so tend to agree with the recent 'Which' downgrade.

I like the new look CR-V - the previous one was really very ho-hum designwise.  But this is more of a Ford Kuga competitor in terms of size.  This 1,6 will probably sound as much like a diesel as the 1,6 TDI in the Yeti does - i.e. a LOT.  My CR 2,0 is super smooth and sounds like a petrol to every single person I ask (that is a passenger in my car).  Would I buy one?  No as I want 4x4.  If combing that with all the toys of a top spec model you get a VERY expensive car.  And then, no, not worth the extra outlay as someone also said above viz a viz a Yeti.

We used to have a CRV before the Yeti. The CRV is a somewhat slow, ponderous beast in comparison, noisy and prone to body roll. I'd love to buy another Honda - still impressive detail engineering - but overall they've lost the plot. (Or perhaps they're just not importing any more desirable vehicles into the UK?)

Designwise they make som hideously ugly things at present.  But the CR-V is nice and muscular.  I like it.  But the new Civic, the Civic Estate and the new Jazz:

And that is BEFORE you've had to deal with the two tier dashboard and wacky interior...  no thanks.

But as I said inside and out the CR-V is fine (especially compared to the above).

The new CRV looks like a big improvement over the old one. No ideal what its like to drive but reviews are complimentary and the 1.6 is supposed to be great in the civic.

I can live with the Civic interior. The new Jazz interior is heinous. Worse than the latest Auris. What on earth are they putting in the tea at some of these Japanese design studios? Saying that, they are putting something pretty good in the tea at Mazda (CX5 front end excepted).

I test drove the Civic 1.6 diesel (a Es spec) in comparison to a mark 7 1.6 diesel Golf, when I started my search for a new vehicle in February. I drove the Golf, then the Civic almost straight after each other (the Vw and Honda dealerships are right next to each other!) The Golf was more refined with regards to road noise, it seemed to be better insulated. In terms of dynamics, I couldn't really pick between them, so the Golf won for me. However, the Vw dealer was quoting silly numbers for the Golf, even though he cut 1k off the price (25k for an SE spec car once you've factored in 3 year service deal?-no thanks). I ordered a Yeti almost immediately following sitting in one and testing it a couple of weeks ago, as it put a smile on my face and seems ideal for my needs (fuel economy aside;you can't have everything :think: ).

The 1.6 Honda engine was smooth and eager and pretty quiet once you've gone into 3rd gear or higher. I guess with the CRV, it depends on whether it can cope with the increased weight. Have they upped the Bhp on it?
