Blowing smoke - confused.

Blue smoke after idling a few min but clears after revving it; VALVE STEAM SEALS  :hi:

Engine while idling is in vacuum, oil from engine head gets sucked into combustion chamber through small cracks between valve and seals.

Unless you plan on going beyond 220 brake a k03s is the better choice

It's nearly at that at the minute. No exact figure but it's close on that i'd say

I was also going to say valve stem seals, but if its only started since the decat was fitted, its 90% turbo.

Stem seals usually puff a cloud on startup then clear on idle and leave another cloud when you pull away. It's most noticeable in traffic leaving puffs when you crawl forward.

It could be stem seals but my money would be on the turbo if it turns into a blue smoke machine when at idle. And again a decat reduces back pressure which shows up turbo seals quicker (it doesn't cause it just shows it up)

That was it to a "T" until the decat.

I would be going along with valve seals as well.

Big job??

Labour intensive and fiddly, parts are cheap as chips though.

I've not done a vag 20v before but done plenty of others. It can be done with the head in place by pressurizing the cylinder with air and using a special spring compressor but it's not a handy job by any stretch.

Sometimes taking the head off is easier.

Again if the decat made it worse I still say turbo seals

Any update on this? Mine has the NCT soon so not looking good for that.

just fitted my hybrid no blue smoke! so mine was turbo seals happy days for me :giggle:
