mk1 octavia vrs randomly cutting out ? HELP ME PLEASE!

Featured Replies

right then people please save my sanity ....

bought this octavia the other day ...  bought with an intermittent running problem that it just cuts out ...  to be honest there are no specific common factors that i could pin point ..  its cut out at 5 mph ..  its also cut out on the by pass doing 50 mph ...  its cut out pulling away ..  half throttle...  diff temps ..  from cold ..  or wen its been running ...

The car will idle all day long ..  no warning lights..  been scanned with snap on mt2500 scanner no codes..  scanned with vcds lite ..  no codes...  tried on a whim a new crank sensor ..  nothing ..  tried disconnecting maf...  the same..  checked all fuses..  checked all relays..  checked battery voltage.. alternator charging rate..   main fuses on battery ..  battery connections..  the battery to chassis earth straps

the car will not start straight back up again once its died..  you have to take the key out ( yes whilst moving normally) lock it and un lock it and normally its starts back up again ..  sometimes you have to do it twice....  it seems it could be imobliser related but i  don't understand why it will start straight away...  tick over fine ...  but only cut out when driven....

please help!!!

Fuel pump failing poss relay 409

  • Author

will that is my theory aswell after reading all the posts about the relays...  jsut hope its a relay and not **** connection...

changed the 409 relay and all the others in that row ...  thought it was fixed but died twice in a mile...  the temp gauge sensor reads incorrectly and it will reach 90 n back off all over the shop so again im replacing the other CTS now ...  but it seems fuel related.  once cut out it will not re start straight away..  sometimes you have to re alarm it and diss arm it..  seems strange...  almost like having to re power the fuel pump ..

going to check the pump later and the connections to it..  also the wiring behind the relay board where the 409 relay is situated....

also got a second hand camshaft sensor that i kno works as its off an old engine i stripped so will replace that aswell...

but im loosing the will to live and may just sell it as it is...

what would this relay control ?

It's the ECU power relay

Try cleaning up the earth points under the battery tray. That caused all sorts of wierd problems with mine.

already done that buddy..  the black 13mm ? ok well ill have a go at the other relay...  its wierd i drove it yesterday and wen it died whilst it was still in gear with clutch out n rolling i fiddled with a relay under the dash id say it was the one stamped "100" and it came bk into life...  again wen it died today i did the same but it only coughed and wouldnt fire back up untill it was turned off n on again .. im stumped

Was this problem ever resolved, please?

I have almost exactly the same problem and symptoms when it does cut out, though mine is not a VRS. When it cuts out or from cold,I take the Ignition Key out, Operate central locking, even opening a door or switching the radio off.  Originally mine was a starting issue with no problems whilst running but last night it cut out in a very dangerous place and so I'd like to bottom this as quickly as possible.  Additional info - when it won't start or stops/cuts out in mid flight, there is a "clicking" under the dash/steering column area.  I'm sure it's relay related but not sure it's the relay, it's a bit like a lose connection to a relay when the power break occurs the relay opens/closes time & time again.

I really would appreciate any help which you are able to offer please.

Thanks

Rob
