Where do your charge your phone?

Featured Replies

I have an iphone, and usually I put a cradle on the dash as although many will not like what I am about to say, when I am in traffic etc I do like to have a qucik look at the screen.

Skoda have been great to add a phoen holder by the cup holders, but I was finding it messy to trail a cable from the USB port to the holder, and when although I could have used the lighter socket, I would have had more trailing cables, so.... earlier in the week I ordered some extra long USB cables, and when they arrived this morning, I realised that I could run a cable neatly from the cup holder, under the passenger seat, and along into the boot where I already have a twin adaptor coming out of the socket in the back.

this now keeps the dash area free.

Hopefully when I get my iphone 5, I will put a cradle on at the bottom of the dash, and the cable I have run should still be long enough.

Hope this helps anybody who was wondering what to do.

I just got a vent phone holder which takes it away from the windscreen and keeps it close for touching the screen. I think that's a better solution imo. I'm really happy with it anyway.

For my Samsung Galaxy Nexus, I use a nice solid Brodit mount (and here) up high where I can see it and reach it easily (when stationary, of course).  It doesn't obscure the vent and I can still reach its control and the hazards switch.

And I got a fairly short USB cable where the wire is coiled, and plug this into the USB port low down in the dash.  It means that the cable does go across the display, but that doesn't bother me, and it is much better than using the stupidly placed 12V socket near the gear lever.

I don't really want to leave something permanently plugged into the boot 12V socket as it is permanently live (regardless of ignition being on).

Bear in mind, some Apple devices don't charge when using either extended or overly long USB cables due to voltage drop. You'll have to try it to see I suppose.

I really dont want to cover the air vent, but I do like the one which is by the window.

will wait until I get my new phone as I dont want to be changing brackets. I will then use the long USB lead back to the USB port.

Each to their own, but it really doesn't affect the function of the vent.  And the Brodit mount attached to the A pillar looks to me, as if the phone would be further to stretch - and harder to get a charging table to.

The one I'm using has this sort of really sticky surface (looks like a gel of some kind) so the phone simply sticks to it with no additional bracing to keep it in place. It's surprisingly sturdy and it won't budge even over very rough roads. And also, there's no sticky stuff left on the phone when you remove it. It comes off quite easily when you pull the phone in the right way.

Technology nowadays is quite amazing! :)

I mentioned in another post a few weeks ago that I carried over my Brodit angle mount from the Superb II. It does partially cover the passenger side climate display but you can still read the display and it sits below the Amundsen screen so any wires are low down. I also just got a Nokia Lumia 720 which I can get speed camera apps for so I am upgrading the mount for the Nokia and ditching the Snooper, so that's me sorted hopefully! Also, the charger uses the USB socket so I will also be able to ditch the 12V lead that the Snooper uses, I'll post a pic when the Nokia mount is fitted.
